no tour for you: a SIMULBLOG!...
The list of finalists is about to pared to 10 - the magic number for a nice, cushy summer job on the American Idol tour. Randy Travis will be back, paired with Carrie Underwood for an anticipated duet while we wait (and wait and wait and wait since it's another dang 15-minute show crammed into one hour) to learn which unfortunate kid will have his or her dreams of seeing the country and being a star crushed like dead leaves on the sidewalk.
Because THIS is American Idol. And this is a simulblog, where I'm typing the events as they're unfolding on the East Coast, so if you want to remain a results virgin, time to catch up on today's news over at CNN, because there will be spoilers.
And the show's about to start!

Ryan says the results may SHOCK us. But then the announcer also said that Carrie Underwood's return to the Idol stage will be an "epic" night. I don't know who to believe.
Over 31 million votes were phoned in last night. Ryan reminds us of the "judges save" rule. C'mon Ryan. If they save the dead one tonight that totally screws up the tour group because it forces a double elimination next week. The only guys they would waste that on at this stage would be Adam or Danny, and I doubt either of them are in line for a shocking exit yet.
We get treated to a retrospective of last night's performances. And then it's time for the group sing! Scott is at the piano as the others flock the stage with Trouble. And I actually kinda enjoyed it.

And we get more filler with a behind-the-scene, after-the-show idea of the tears and anguish following execution night.
Ryan tells Danny to stand. He gets to go on tour.
Lil is next. She's safe.

Allison and Michael are told to stand. Ryan is setting us up to be surprised, which means it's Allison. And it is. She is sent to the bad stool. But then Ryan sends Michael to join Allison on the bad stools.

Brad Paisley is here. He's going to sing. I thought they learned their lesson about random artists hawking CDs without any other connection to this show in season six. They probably forgot about that around the same time they forgot their vow to reduce results shows to half an hour.

Scott is told to stand. He's reminded of last night's reviews. He's told not to make any plans for the summer because he's going to be busy.
Megan is next. She is also safe.
Matt's turn. He's on the tour.
Kris is told he's safe.
Alexis and Adam are told to stand. They are reminded what the judges had to say. Alexis is sent to join the bad people on the bad stools.
Ryan sends Allison back to the safety of the sofa and the luxury of the tour.

It's time for Carrie Underwood's "epic" return to the Idol stage. (Doesn't she return pretty much every year?) And she's teaming with this week's mentor Randy Travis. She has a short, totally-adorable new hairdo. They perform I Told You So for the first time live. And I actually might buy that.
Ryan gushes about Carrie's fab career as he joins the dejected stool sitters. I can't help but wonder when he's going to whip out a knife to stick in their backs just to add to their agony.
Ryan asks the judges about the "save." Simon says the judges might consider saving one of the bottom two-ers.

Simon tells us what we already knew. And he tells Alexis her future is riding on her singout. No pressure.
Alexis looks dejected and resigned. Simon tells her she wasn't good enough. Paula gives her the rah rah speech.
No Alexis on tour. Oh well.

I'm happy to see Carrie back on the show, even if she crops up once a season. At least she's a winner who the show isn't trying to distance itself from (Taylor) or isn't trying to run away from the show (Kelly).
I liked seeing Carrie to, but I didn't like her do. BUT she is beautiful and I loved the song.

LOL, America, don't even THINK of voting either TCO's Gokey and Lambert off the show, since the save is for either of them.
I think the "Save" could be used for Lil as well. Not sure I'd save her, but I think they would.
I think Carrie's new do was a wig :) :)
I was surprised to see Alexis leaving tonight!
Carrie looked ridiculous, but I think it was an homage to the Grand Ol Opry.
I also think the judges would have used a save for a lot of people - most of them, in fact, except Michael and Scott - IF the sing out was great.
But can you imagine having to sing a song in a such an emotional state? I would cry and throw the microphone down and run run away!

While I didn't think Alexis would actually win the competition, I did think she left too soon. She wasn't the worst on Tuesday night by any means. So much for one of my early favorites. *sigh*
At first, I almost liked the idea of the judges' save. I figured it would keep a contestant from getting "Daughtry'd", and that could be a good thing. I'm not so sure anymore.
It seems like a total kick in the teeth to say, "We might save you...Nah, never mind." Talk about dashing somebody's hopes! The disappointment must be brutal.
I loved Alexis and I loved her version of Jolene. I guess I am in the minority. I thought she would make the top 10 for sure. I thought she was miles better than Scott or Michael (oil rig guy, is that his name?). One of them should have gone, they both stunk IMHO. And I can't believe Mehgan is growing on me, I really enjoyed her performance. I can't believe I am saying that! Poor Alexis.... and that "save" is just ridiculous. It is what it is... they are so afraid of another "Daughtry" slipping through their greedy little fingers they can't stand it. Whatevs. And one more rant, Simon and Paula's junior high antics are really getting on my nerves.... get a room already and get it over with (if they haven't already).
I lost interest as soon as they voted the extremely entertaining Matt(?) off. He could sing rings around these kids, and was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Apparently, Simon the Cow is running the show because everyone liked him, before Simon mooed against him. Other than the cute babies, the "touching" stories, these kids have nothing going for them. Without the sob stories? What bland performer would we root for? Anoop? He's there because we couldn't outsource him.
The only reason why Im watching this show is for your blog, Jennifer. Ryan Seefoam is an overbloated pain in my you know what...I vote for YOU to host the show, at least you're interesting.
Thank goodness I have TIVO, I was able to listen to a few moments of the painful caterwalling called country night, and get an idea of how badly each one sang. I was pleased to fast forward the Carrie Underwear performance, she still gets on my last nerve. Am I the only person in America who doesn't like her?

Nope. I don't care for her either. She's very pretty and seems awfully nice but vocally, she's very "plain" to me. But then again, that's why she's a great big country star. She fits the mold perfectly for that genre.

I actually think this was one of the better "country nights" with the exception of one performance coughAdamcough!!!! I agree that the performers this year are somewhat unexciting in that there's no Sanjaya, Chicken Little or Pickler to pick on and love to hate. Had they put "Nick" (not Matt) through there would have been some more of that sort of entertainment value but I, for one am glad he didn't make it. I watch the show for talented singers not polarizing exhibitionists!!! And, I'm curious,what did you mean by this, especially the last sentence?

Oh, I'm another person in America that dislikes Carrie Underwood/wear :-) I've never liked her, though I have to admit she's been extremely successful.
I mentioned last week how cruel I find the Judges "Save" and I haven't changed my mind!! That was just plain rotten... to dangle hope and then snatch it away. The poor girl was a bundle of jitters and sang very poorly as a result!! I think Simon Cruel might be a better name than Cow.
The judges have to know they did not pick any outstanding singers or performers this season. I find the judges this season even more useless than the contestants. None of them can offer any advise that will improve any of these people. They are what they are. I think this is a group of very nice people and they are actually doing the best they can.
