12 up, nine down...

It's time for group 2, which has to be better as a whole than last week's group one. Has to be. Can't be much worse.

One presumes the theme for tonight is the same as last week, the very broad Billboard #1 songs, which is appropriate, and one can only hope that tonight's semi-finalists remember that they have one shot at advancing so now is not the time to let the nerves take control.

I will probably not be able to watch the full two-hours tonight (which is why God made TiVo) so tomorrow I'll weigh in on the performances, but the ones I'm looking for specifically are Adam Lambert, Jasmine Murray with hopefully a good one from Kai Kalama. (I'm not holding out too much hope for this year's crop of females.) I also can't wait to see what Nick Mitchell/Normand Gentle has in store for us.

So use up the comment thread to share your reviews. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon and, of course, tomorrow night, when we execute another nine people.

See you then.

Not starting off great. I like Jasmine but not tonight. Hoping Adam and Kai nail it.

2 down and neither was great, which is unfortunate because I thought those two would do better.

Nick/Normund was actually the best so far. The first three were suffering from the same problems as group 1 - terrible song choices for their voices...

Is it me or have the "Judges" all ran out of anything of any significance to say anymore?
As far as I'm concerned this was the Adam Lambert and whoever else can muster up some votes show.
And the only contestant I liked tonight was Matt B.
Yep.
I said it.

The only one I watched all the way through was Adam. The rest, I listened to the first few seconds and was bored to tears. Last night was so much worse than last week that's for sure. I'm hard pressed to pick three people to advance besides Adam. Although I have heard lots of negative stuff about him, I still like him. You didn't miss much, trust me.
L
P.S.: Are they still picking out their own clothes? Because that would explain WHY most of them aren't very flattering.

They weren't better than last week. Jasmine put it in the tank. Matt Giruad put it in the tank. Jeanine Vailes put in in the tank. Do you see a trend here?
There were a few bright spots, but overall, it really wasn't much better than last week.

I really, really want Nick/Norman to advance and then show up in the first episode of the Top 12 in full drag. That would hi-freaking-larious. But I think he's a Wild Card at best.

Of the girls, Allison was the class of the night and everyone else was a big "meh".

For the guys, Adam will advance because he got the Pimp Spot and Kai will go through because of all the face time/sympathy votes.

What's with the judges raving over Megan Corkrey? She was shrieking and shrill through the whole song. It hurt my ears.

Matt B. was so average it was astonishing. Just imagine if Chris Daughtry or David Cook sung the same song, it would have had power and edginess. Matt was just zzzzzzz.

What is with all the horrible song choices? They should get someone to help with that, since the contestants obviously don't have a clue as to how to pick a song that will give them the best showcase.

Tonight’s episode was largely horrible. Insofar as I am concerned, Allison was the only one who gave a Idol-caliber performance. She was head and shoulders above all the rest. But I would be shocked if she can continue to perform at that level over the course of the show.

The only other decent performance was Adam, but he only looked strong because everyone else was so bad. I cringed when I heard he was going to sing “Satisfaction.” It came off better than I expected. However, he’s a stage performer and he looked like a stage performer pretending to be a rock singer.

I laughed my ass off over Norman Gentle. However, he definitely does not belong on this show. What they’re looking for is a recording artist, and he is certainly not that. He would have been much better off going for the Las Vegas gig on America’s Got Talent. I can definitely seem him in Vegas.

I echo those who said the show was awful, much worse than last week. Egads, are all the wild cards going to be chosen from Week 1 of this process?

For the first time in several seasons, I didn't pick up the phone to vote other than for Nick/Norman because he's the breath of fresh air (and hilarity) this country so badly needs right now. Go Norman! I do agree he'd be fabulous in Vegas and is perfectly suited for AGT. I had high hopes for Matt but he bombed it. I don't like Adam, period, nor did I care for his rendition of "Satisfaction."

I think there are a few wildcards from group 2 - (Assuming Adam and Allison win the top two spots) Matt Girard will likely get another chance, or Kris Allen, depending on which one doesn't make third place. Also Megan Corkrey will probably get asked back, since the judges obviously LOVE her so much. And maybe Mishovanna.
