it's hollywood baby...

Finally. No more auditions. So to speak.

It's Hollywood. Hell Week. Time for catfights and tears. Heroics and humiliation. It's what we endure the auditions for.

Finally.

It's another open thread, so have at it. I just hope there are group numbers.

Jennifer,
I am so glad this blog is back in full swing. I'm looking forward to things picking up on AI. I'm also waiting for Bikini Girl to get washed out to sea. I hope that doesn't take too long :)

Here's hoping all is well with you and Walter :)

Simon lost all credibility when he said Bikini Girl was good. Kara and Paula were absolutely right, she was barely average and did not deserve to continue.

Neither did Norman/Nick, but at least he wasn't obnoxious about it.

Don't you think Hollywood week would be an opportunity to show the contestants that we saw little or nothing of during the auditions? I do!! Harrumph!!!

Every year they pick a few contestants who they must think are good or interesting and you see very little of the other ones. I agree with JJ, we should see all of them. It really is a unfair advantage for the chosen ones.

Bikini Girl and Norman/Nick are a waste of air time.

I can't believe I'm doing this . . .

In defense of Nick/Norman, at least he's marginally entertaining. Yes, his schtick gets old, but as Paula said, when it comes down to it, he really can sing. I'm not saying he's going to win, but he certainly wasn't worse than some of the others who have advanced to the top 12 (Chris Sligh, for example). I think if he'd take the show seriously, he could do fairly well (and be a whole lot better than Scott Savol, to boot).

I was on my cruise when bikini girl's audition was on and I'm glad I missed it. Simon and Randy have always let Mr. Happy do their thinking for them and let hawt girls advance who don't deserve it. I do think Kara is being catty, but the fact of the matter is that Katrina is only one of a million pretty girls with an okay voice out there in America. Why should she get to advance when others don't?

. . . Because of the bikini, of course.

I agree 100% with Dave. I'll just add that I think Nick/Norman doesn't really have an interest in singing as a career, per se, but just wants to break into showbiz. He *does* have a rather good voice, but it isn't good enough to win. I think he knows that. But all that air-time has got to translate into *something* for him. Look at what JayWalking did for Ross the Intern.

This will be the only time I comment on bikini-girl, because she's not worth any further effort. All I will say is, "Second coming of Antonella Barba."

P.S. Kara can sing circles around her.

@Dave - that was a very Sligh-ting comment.

god, tonight's show was torturous. They spent more time on all the whining and crying than on the singing! We hardly got to see any of the sings, which is why I wanted to watch the show. GRRRR.

At least Bikini Girl is gone.

And Antonella Barba was way better, because she didn't have the attitude.

The only section worth watching last night was Danny's group. I'm still singing that in my head!! Awesome!! I'm sorry Rose forgot her lyrics...I think I might have liked her. I wasn't crazy about her voice when she first auditioned but when I heard her last night I was more impressed and am sorry to see her go so soon. And about the forgetting lyrics thing!!! Is this a competition for people with the best memory? I didn't think so. I don't believe so much emphasis should be placed on that at this point in the competition. These kids are under a boatload of stress on top of lack of sleep... forgetting the words should not be the only reason they get sent home. I agree, that later on in the process, when they have more time to learn the song they're singing, forgetting the words should play a more important role.. but not now.. not this early!
Anyone agree with me?
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, glad to see bikini girl go home!! What a smug, self satisfied B!#&h she is!!

I was SO glad to see Bikini Girl get cut, especially after she totally "posed" when they called her to the front line. Gah, she's annoying!

I hated to see Rose leave, though. For some inexplicable reason, I liked her.

I think forgetting the lyrics shows more about how people deal with pressure than about their memory.

Do singers forget the words sometimes? Of course. Look at Ozzy Osbourne; I'll be he only remembers about half the words on any given night. And then there are the lip-syncers who don't need to worry about the lyrics.

However, I think for Idol, if a singer forgets the words because they're "under a lot of stress" it says that the show will break them. After all, the ones who make it to the voting rounds will be singing for their careers every week until they're either eliminated or get to the finale in about four months. If someone can't hack it now, they're going to be a mess at the end of April.

I liked Rose but the barefoot thing was getting on my nerves. It's Hollywood, please wear some shoes.

Other annoying people: Bikini Girl, Nancy (there was no need to act like that), Tatiana, and Nathaniel.

I was sad to see the girl with pink hair and the Osmond guy go home.

I hope I'm not the only one who wanted to punch Tatiana in the face. I felt bad for her group having to deal with her, I was kind of expecting one of them to push her off the balcony or something.

LOL at Flyingspatulas, Tatiana's a mental case! I felt sorry for the girls who were stuck with her and bikini girl.

I completely agree with Dave's POV on the subject of forgetting lyrics.

"And about the forgetting lyrics thing!!! Is this a competition for people with the best memory?"

Actually a good memory and the ability to deal with pressure are important. Don't forget the total number of songs the David's had to memorise for the finale. Imagine what a disaster it would have been if the Davids forgot their lyrics then.

So, as much as I hate to admit it, good memory is crucial in the show biz. It's not everything but it's pretty important!

Oh well, I guess I'm outvoted on the forgetting the lyrics thing...it's probably because I really liked Rose and didn't think she should have gone home so soon, especially since she was helping her group remember the lyrics at the beginning and then she forgot hers...
However, if Tatiloony had forgotten her words and had been sent home as a result I'd have been cheering.. so I have to admit, I'm probably a teensy, weensy bit biased :-)
