As we usher in the eighth season of our favorite television talent competition, it's time to cheer and jeer the first groups of wannabes.
So because I won't be blogging the audition episodes, it's open season. This is the place for all of us to pick our early favorites, laugh at the comedy plants, laugh at the judges or just laugh at each other.
Because THIS is American Idol. And this is an open thread.

LOVED the opening montage. Although I could have lived without the Brittendumbs.
not sure what to think of new judge-- too many people talking at once.

Not sure about 4 judges either especially when one of them starts singing to show the untalented but bikini clad young lady how the song should have sounded. Of course her reply of "yours didn't sound any better", is sure to get her to the final 12.

If bikini girl was dressed normal and just ten pounds heavier, she would have never made it. I look for her to leave early in Hollywood...unless she wears a g-string and pasties.
I like Kara but four judges allows for a split instead of a majority.
I was confused about bikini girl. So Randy and Simon wanted her through and Paula and Kara were obviously against her but she made it. I wish I had TIVOed it so I could watch again. Did one of the girls give in or did they let two be the "majority?" It was a little hard to follow with everyone talking over each other.
Bikini girl is pretty obnoxious. I can't wait to see her go home.
I really liked the girl named Stevie.
I am glad Idol and Idoling Along is back! :)
I'm guessing if it is a split vote, the contestant moves ahead. It happened a couple times last night.
Oh Kristi, don't give the child any ideas! LOL
I think the only way to be fair in a split vote is to advance them. After all in the past it only took two votes to do that, so even with four judges it's pretty much the same.
Did anybody hear what Kara said when Bikini Girl made it through? It sounded something like, "Next time come naked." Zing. :)
I'm not sure. I'll have to rewatch that segment--painful as that's going to be.
I had heard that if there was a tie vote, SIMON's vote determined whether they would advance. Didn't watch all of last night yet, but for Bikini Girl, it follows what I heard.
Really like Stevie and Tattooed Girl. Blind guy is good too. Dorky smart guy has a great voice, he could be a surprise. Same with construction guy!!

I do like that Kara is a bit more useful in her critiques than is Paula. any chance this leads to only 3 judges next year? :)

Hmm. No favorites yet. The visually impaired fellow is amazing on piano, but I felt his voice was rather weak. (Yeah, I'll be the bad guy and crit the blind fella because no one else will.)
