big, big news...

Here's the link to Ryan's interview this morning with Chris Daughtry.

I think he took Chris by surprise. And Chris fans might just be ecstatic.

It's apparently big. And potentially great news for Chris.

ETA: It's Fuel. Thanks to Gavintiegirl in the comments for the link!

We should all try to guess which band wants him to lead for them. I have no suggestions, any guesses before tonight's show?

YAY!! NEW GAME!! (sorry, shouting...)

I'm no help here, since before Chris I had never heard of Fuel, Creed, Live or any of them.

Household name, though?

Queen? :D

Long time reader, first time poster.

Not sure if you knew this or not, but Chris was the frontman of a Christian rock group in NC. Some of his songs can be found here from a live show: http://www.soundclick.com/stations/stations.cfm?id=349578

So, based on his religious background, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned down any offer he was given.

Fuel would be a cool fit, seeing as they have been relivent recently and their frontman left the band in the past several months (Scallions was battling addiction).

Creed is such a lame band they might try to do this for a publicity stunt. However, Scott Stapp left a HUGE stigma was that band, and the last time the other members tried to start a band with a new singer the result, Alter Bridge, was horrible and ridiculously derivative.

In short, and in conclusion, Chris needs to do his own this. He has the pipes and anything else would be way too gimmicky as it's obvious that whatever band wants him is desperate and sees the dollar signs.

The good thing is that his soul belongs to the show through the fall and then he is contractually prohibited from releasing any CDs until six months after the winner's CD is released, so he can't really make any snap decisions. But the offer so quickly should be good news to Chris fans worried about his future.

He probably has the brightest future of any of them really. I remember Bo admitting he was terrified he was going to win. Once the shock wears off and the show is over, I think Chris is going to be relieved he didn't even place second. At least I hope so.

What about Styx?? Dennis DeYoung has been without the band for quite some time now. And we all know that they are one of Chris' favorite bands. The only question I have is that his voice isn't like DeYoung's. As opposed to the similarities (both voice and looks) between Steve Perry and Steve Augueri(sp?).

I was also thinking Creed because he could make them good again now that Scott Stapp(sp?) is gone. But I wouldn't think he would choose that.

Fuel is still around with the same lead singer, I believe. I know they came to the Festival that my boyfriend and I went to last summer.

Other choices: Floyd (no David Gilmour), Stones (Richards has been having brain problems, but he's just a guitarist right?), etc...

Styx has Lawrence Gowan.
Has to be a band Chris has talked about alot. Goodness! Very interesting stuff happening here! What happens if Chris took a job before release of winner's CD?

Well...this has never happened, so without knowing for sure, I think he could take the job (or else I don't think Ryan would have brought it up) with the agreement to wait until after the tour with the knowledge that they can't release a CD until probably winter/early spring. But Constantine was still a member of PFSOB and Bo stayed a member of his band during the tour.

Hey! Maybe it's Betty! They need a new singer. ROFL <- Joke, Constantine fans.

The lead singer of Fuel left the band about 1 month ago. Hmmmmm, me thinks this is the offer Chris will be given and if so . . . WOO-HOO!!!

I keep hearing people say he can't release anything until 6 months after the winner, but today at lunch, I heard Chris Daughtry's new song, called something like "Close to me". The radio DJ (107.5 FM in Greensboro, NC) specifically said it was Chris' new song. I couldn't find anything about it anywhere on the net though. Could it be an Idol owned song? There must be some exceptions in that contract.

If the song I heard today was any indication, he's going to sell a ton of CD's. His future is extremely bright.

If Chris' band recorded the song before he made the Hollywood rounds and if he signed away his right to profit from the sale of the recording, it can be released. That's exactly what Constantine's band did last year. That's about the only explanation I can think of.

I don't think Chris's band is a Christian band, it's played on an Alternative Station. If you look up Chris Daughtry on wikkopedia there are links. Rumor is Fuel or some punk-ska band I never heard of. There is one black guy in the group and it looks like the guy Chris high fived last night.

Read this article on People's website which names Fuel as the band:
http://people.aol.com/people/articles/0,19736,1193395,00.html

He probably wants to go out on his own.

I believe that Absent Element (Chris's Band) is an alternative Christian Rock band.

Seriously people? Why didn't anyone listen to my link above? They are a Christian rock band. For goodness sakes, they played them on the Fish in Atlanta today.

This isn't rocket science. I'll post it again:

Jennifer,

You were correct. It was absent element. The DJ misidentified it.

Thanks for the pointer.

Yes, Absent Element is a Christian Alternative Rock band. You can listen to some of their songs and read their lyrics on their website, thoughtfully posted by JR and Jennifer. (Sorry, no pictures of Chris...contractual obligations, you know.) I really like their sound! May be a bit too heavy for some people, though. *wink, wink* -L I [heart] you, too. ;)
