david loses daddy...

I have avoided all season discussing the stage monster that, allegedly, is Jeff Archuleta, David's dad. But it seems Daddy Archuleta stepped over the line, and has now been banished from the backstages of American Idol, much in the same way he was reportedly barred from the backstage of Star Search when young David was a contestant there.

One thing you do not do, aside from allowing your 17-year-old son to actually breathe on his own, is cost American Idol money. And, reportedly, when the senior Archuleta insisted that David insert a little Sean Kingston, which he had been strictly prohibited from doing, into his Stand By Me on Tuesday night, the additional dollars added up.

And, as a result, Daddy got booted.

Read about it here.

I've always suspected David A's nervousness has had a lot to with his dad's reported overbearingness. He's afraid to say anything that might make his dad angry. They should have barred him from interfering a long time ago.

If what is being reported is true - and I believe that it is and has been - I think the show needed cause to bar him, and getting them in trouble legally was the excuse they needed.

This is the perfect reason to raise the age to 18.

Poor David. :( He's just being an obedient son, and look what happens. I'm sure he feels awful about it, but what can he do? He can't complain to his daddy, I'm sure. Parents should be allowed to watch backstage stuff from behind a two-way mirror to make sure their children aren't being mistreated. But they should NOT be allowed to participate in the process. I can't stand the behavior of stage-parents.

There have only been two minor (under age 18) singers who have done well on Idol: Diana and Jordin.

Everyone else has melted down on stage. I've been saying for years that the minimum age should be raised to 18, not only to keep stage parents away but for preserving the fragile state of mind for the younger singers (Jaclyn Crum, anyone?).

If the Arch weren't this season's TCO and it were earlier in the process, they would probably kick him off for violating the copyright rules of the show. As it is, they can't abandon him this late in the year (who would Randy slurp every night), so they'll slap his daddy on the wrist, something they should have done at the beginning of the year.

Isn't the father staying in the same hotel room with David A? If so, I am sure when he gets back to the room there is hell to pay. I agree, the minimum age should be 18.
