clive's choices...
Elliott = Open Arms.
Katharine = I Believe I Can Fly.
Taylor = Dancing in the Dark.
And Clive has confirmed, because there was doubt, that he will sign both the winner and the runner-up to contracts. (Plus, for the Chris fans, there's some good news too.)
Something about those choices just says to me that Clive has a definite favorite.
So, what do you think?
__________
Judges Choice
Paula for Elliott = What you Won't Do For Love by Bobby Caldwell. (verified)
Randy for Taylor = You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker. (verified)
Simon for Katharine = Somewhere Over the Rainbow (not verified but not refuted, so I feel very confident this is accurate. I have linked the Kim Locke rendition, mainly because it's the only one I have.)

So...who do you think the definite favorite is????????
Weeeellllll, considering he gave Elliott and Kat two oversung, overused songs that Simon hates and went to Springsteen to get first-ever permission for Taylor...
Clive Davis playing favorites? No-o-o-o, really? Can you say Wooo!!!!
Why didn't he just give Elliot and Kat "Happy Birthday"? He wouldn't need to get permission for them to sing that.
I realize this is the week that the producer and judges can have an impact on the outcome by their song choices, but this is almost too obvious.
I like Taylor...in fact he is actually my favorite (despite those incredible brown eyes of Kat). I've always thought he was the most entertaining of the group and I'd like to see him win it all.
However, I don't think it should be given to him. There is always the possibility that Chris fans will come out in force and join the Elliot power voters to undermine the best laid plans of Fox/19. America is funny that way.
You'll notice, I'm admitting that Kat has virtually no chance of survival tonight.
Later All,
JR (DrillerAA)
I agree with tracyintpa, Taylor gets the cheesiest Springsteen song - I don't know about Clive playing favorites... meh
Both Elliot and Kat have great powerballads.
I also think it's obvious that Clive really doesn't have enough interest to even come up with remotely inspired choices. Taylor's may be cheesy, but it's catchy, and it took some effort to clear (even though Springsteen is on his label). Maybe it was not enough coffee this morning, but I LMAO over his "conversation" with Taylor about the song. "It's about SEX." ROFL
I think it's a sort of test for the other two, because I groaned the same thing last year over his choice for Bo and Bo turned in one of his best-ever performances with Don't Let the Sun go Down on Me. So maybe we'll be in for a surprise treat.
I'm with you. I want them to battle it out fairly, so that no one can say it wasn't a fair fight. But really...they are piling it on Kat. Two songs that she can either hit out of the ballpark or completely destroy?
Well, if Kat did the Marylin Monroe to JFK arrangement of Happy Birthday, she might pull this thing off! Just kidding.
The only thing more obvious would be to put Taylor in a flag shirt and let him do "Born in the USA"!
When Kat finishes her "Clive" song, do you think Paula will be stoned enough to say, "I don't think that was the best song choice for you"?
Is it time for Idol yet? (Is it too early to start counting the hours?) (Gosh, I'm pathetic!)
-lauren
Well Lauren, if you're pathetic, then you've got a lot of company. :D
And I swear, if the judges tell any of the kids that [that] was a bad song for them [except personal choice, of course] like Randy kept doing last year, I'm gonna scream. Or I want Clive to haul off and slap them. (Of course Randy will drone on about the Journey song, like always...)
Good Morning! I am thinking that Clive's picks were made with the thought in mind that these songs ARE so oversung and well known that they will be looking very closely for the contestant's "spin" if you will. Now, you know how much Simon hates Taylor and will be the first one to say it was a bad Karaoke performance or he'll be even kinder (sarcastic eye roll) and call him a drunk dad at a wedding. Journey should be a "you brought it baby" to Elliott from Randy because of his affiliation with Journey and I'm sure Paula will love Katharine's shoes. I guess the point I'm trying to make, Each person no matter which song they were given has to "bring it" No margin for error or getting lazy because you think you got this won. I am thinking we may see the best Idol final 3 in idol history. I expect them ALL to bring it, if Katharine doesn't choke under the pressure. Is it 8pm yet? LOL.
Ps. Jennifer I'm crossing my fingers that I got that "issue" under control.
I know that a lot of people are of the mind that Clive is favoring Taylor, but I disagree. I think Elliot has the best of the Clive picks.
I think Taylor will do well, but he could very easily lose control with his dancing and blow the performance. It doesn't seem like the type of song Taylor would've performed by choice.
VCM - I'm warming up my DVR so I can watch her destroy 'I believe I can fly.' The song is gospel-inspired and I've never seen her sing with anything I'd call "soul".
I will close my eyes and enjoy my Elliot singing. The man could sing the alphabet or Happy Birthday and I'd be a very happy girl.
Seriously folks, Kat's only hope to advance tonight is to nail every song perfectly, wear a black dress that is slit to the hip, and a v-neck line to her navel, and make love to the camera with those incredible brown eyes.
She is the best vocalist, but it is a guy's turn to win and we have two great choices. The perfect finale would have been Carrie/Kat last year and Bo/Taylor/Elliot this year. With three female idols in four years, AI wants a guy to win. Otherwise, some guys will quit auditioning and alot of women will quit watching.
JR, I agree completely. I knew before the season even started that there was no possible way I would vote for a female. However, BO vs. TAYLOR???? How could I ever choose between the two great loves of my life? (Besides my husband, of course) ;-)
I disagree with anyone who says Kat is the best vocalist. She may be the most trained vocalist, but I think Elliot is best.
I do agree with the comment that I don't think Taylor would have picked the Springstein song for himself and that his dancing could detract from that one.
I also agree with the comment that Kat doesn't have much soul.
I'm hearing a lot of: "I like Taylor but I'm going to vote for Elliott. Elliott has really come on strong lately and I've warmed up to him."
If you're a Taylor fan, you better vote your fingers off.
HEY! Keep your hands off my Bo.
:D
Ahhh, Bo...I miss Bo. A Bo/Taylor finale? Wow, that would have been amazing, as would the Carrie/Kat finale.
Tonight, it's anybody's game. They really have to nail all of their songs, lest they be voted off tomorrow night. My guess for the finale is that it will be both of the men. I like Kat, but I think people would like to see a man win this year, since all but one of the Idol winners have been women. Bring on a Taylor/Elliott finale!
so, getting into the dream finale discussion. Whatever happened to world idol? :) I want to see this year's winner go up against the winners from around the world again. And hey, it's been 4 years, they should do the WI thing every 4 years like the Olympics, keeping it fresh :) And we'll be in need of a weekly Idol fix over the summer. what'da ya think?
