whose rock will roll?: a SIMULBLOG!...

Rock night on Idol was so intense, the set was shattered. And tonight, somebody's dreams are gonna be joining it.

Because THIS is American Idol. And this is a simulblog, where I'm typing as fast as I can, trying to describe the action as it's happening live in the east, so if you want to be surprised, now is the time to go rewatch the fan-freaking-tabulous A-plus-A duet from last night. (I really hope big brother/little sister, who obviously have total love for each other take the "record together" advice seriously.)

But don't forget to come back, visit and dish with the rest of us. Because the show is about to start! _____

Ryan says over 64 million votes came in last night, the highest total outside of a finale. The kids are paper dolls in the Ford video and the group sing features Slash on guitar. Best one this season.
_____

The four are sitting on the stools, chatting with Ryan. Danny is pretty amusing with his admission that the "horror scream" was really as bad as the judges said it was.

Paula debuts her new single, proving without a doubt what good electronic enhancements can do to a mediocre voice. That was, well, painful.
_____

I just caught the promo for the summer tour. Am I the only one who had forgotten Michael Sarver?

Paula blathers to Ryan that she wanted to play the AI stage because it's a happy place. C'mon Paula. Everyone knows that playing the AI stage means zillions in sales. That's why No Doubt is there. And they're there.
_____

Ryan reminds us that the three survivors get the hometown treatment, and then we're treated to a retrospective of past homecomings. That was cool. Good memories.

The final four are brought to the stage.

Allison, Danny, Adam and Kris are lined up in that order. The kids are reminded of last night's reviews with no mention of bottom anythings.

One gets sent to safety. It's...Kris!! The others give him major hugs.
_____

Chris Daughtry is back in the house. And we're reminded of his season five journey. The band is debuting the first single from their sophomore album, No Surprise. I like it. And like David Cook before him, Chris gets a plaque, commemorating the success of his first quadruple platinum first CD, proving sometimes not winning is the best victory.
_____

The three remaining kids are center stage.

The next person safe and in the top three is... Adam.

Allison and Danny share a hug.

Danny is safe. Allison goes home.

She watches her journey as Carrie Underwood sings.

And my heart just broke a little.

So long Allison, and thanks.

See you next week.

Well, i don't really think Allison deserved to go, but I am just so happy that Kris is safe!!!
And really really angry that we missed Daughtry because our stupid satellite receiver crapped out on us just at Idol time!! thanks for keeping us informed while we were in the dark, Jennifer!

Not unexpected, but very sad. Loved Allison. It was great to see her sing the hell out of her sing out.

I have to agree with Ryan though, I think we will be hearing her on the radio. Even though it can be tough for even winners and runner ups these days, as good as she is at that age and in a style that is pretty popular right now I certainly hope someone picks her up.

Allison was robbed. She sang so much better than Kris and Gokey last night. :(

Daughtry was fantastic. He still seems like such a nice guy.

Sweet Allison.
I think she has a bright future ahead of her, and 19E may just have found a female rocker that can sell some records.

Glad to see Kris in the final three, and Adam is no surprise.
(Now HE would have been a shock eleimation, but that sure as heck wasn't going to happen!!)

Ugh....Gokey.....
It's like the frickin' cockroach that just refuses to be squished.
Just the sight of him is irritating.
I've NEVER felt such disgust for a contestant.

This is one of those times I'm NOT happy to have called it. :(

I love Danny (sorry to Anonymous directly above me), but I also love Allison, Adam and Kris. So for me, the one who should be going is the one who performed the worst this week. That was Danny.

I think this is going to be an interesting finale. Kris has been hailed as the dark horse all along. But whether he or Danny make it to the finals, it's pretty much a given that Adam will be there. And while all 3 guys have great voices, neither Danny or Kris can compete with Adam in terms of performance.

Adam WILL be our next American Idol! woohooo!!!

P.S. I can't wait for July!! Daughtry is the bomb! Their first CD is amazing and I expect nothing but good things for the 2nd one. They were sooo good tonight!!

Boo Hiss..In my opinion Allison was 2nd best .....Danny choked....really screwED one of my most favorite songs.....like nails on a chalkboard ...get him out of his comfort zone and he cant sing....BOO HISS

He can't really sing when he's in his comfort zone either. He shouts too much and his voice has that same hollow, "breathy" tone to it that Archuleta has (the one that annoys me).

My sentiments exactly, Dave.
Gokey gives the exact same tired Michael Bolton perfomance over and over and over again.
I'm dumbfounded as to why he's still on the show or why he's a 'chosen one".

I never saw the fascination with Archuleta either, he always sounded like he was wheezing his way through a song.

Like Archuleta, Gokey can't give a coherent interview either. Where Archuleta was always giggling, Gokey just babbles.

Each year Idol picks a couple of "human interest" stories that they exploit. These have included people like "miracle baby" Anthony Fedorov and girl-next-door Carrie Underwood. It gets these folks millions of votes from the get-go regardless of their actual talent.

I'm disappointed... not terribly surprised given how often the poor girl was in the bottom three.. but disappointed nevertheless!!! My question is why? Why did Allison not have a huge following? She's extremely talented, cute, fun to watch and listen to... I voted for her and I'm a middle aged woman.. my husband LOVED her and was extremely pissed when she got sent home last night. I never seen anyone on any of the blogs saying they don't like her or she should go home. Everyone I know wanted her to stay 'til the finale so WHY did she always end up in the bottom three and go home last night before Verizon Guy, who, unfortunately I can still hear!!!
Any ideas??

There's a theory about that, how our society prefers men over women.

I think the week Allison got through and Adam was (allegedly) in the bottom 3 was because his voters figured he was safe and jumped ship to help her out. When he was then (allegedly) in the bottom 3, they didn't do that again.

I've loved Chris Daughtry since season 5, but I thought his song last night was generic and boring.
Especially disappointing since I'd told my boyfriend: Watch this, it's going to be GREAT! Then it was...meh.

Paula, how embarrassing. I'm embarrassed for her. If you can't sing, don't perform on your own singing competition show.

I'm not sure I buy the "men over women" theory since four of the Idol champs are female and two of them (Kelly and Carrie) are the most successful of everyone who has been on the show.

I DO think we have a double-standard about how we view women (on the show and in general). All of the women who have advanced deep into the show have been generally considered attractive, while many of the guys are not "classically" good-looking.

Allison, while she is cute, is not drop-dead gorgeous (like Katharine McPhee), nor does she have that kind of girl next door appeal of Carrie or Kelly. She's got that deep raspy voice, she colours her hair a shade that no human folicle has ever produced and she dresses herself funny . . . you know, like a teenage rocker chick.

Despite what people believe, image does matter and given that she had received less face time than Gokey and the judges have constantly--and undeservedly--talked her down, it shouldn't surprise us at all that both Kris and Danny outlasted her.

And the rocker chicks have never been successful. Okay, Nikki was third, but outside of Tamyra and Christina, there really was no competition. Until Allison, they usually didn't even make the tour.

I think in large part, the people who are going to vote for the rockers in general are more likely to gravitate toward the guys. Unfortunately for Allison, the rocker vote got split and Adam won the battle.

The people who are voting for Kris and Danny probably never would have voted for either Allison or Adam.

First off, Paula performing was a BIG embarrassment! To take the stage and lip-sync her way through a totally weak song was unbearable. And folks, this qualifies her to be a judge! LOL.

Daughtry, meh.

The minute I heard Kris was safe, I knew that it was the end of the line for Allison. What a shame. I'm actually very happy that Kris has a shot because like Adam and Allison, I think he's got true talent. And better yet, marketable and bankable. I would by music from any of these three.

I was hoping deep down that Danny would get the boot but last night but no joy there. I just don't understand his popularity and appeal. He's an okay singer with a good personality. But c'mon folks, is anyone really gonna buy a whole album of music by Danny Gokey???

Jennifer, I just noticed your caption for Allison.

You are soooooooooooooo right!

She was held up at gunpoint then kicked to the curb!

FYI...Vote for the Worst is backing Danny, or it was as of yesterday. I'm glad he stayed; he's been my fave all along, in spite of his major screw-up(s) on Tuesday. Kris should have gone. I still don't get his popularity. Singers like him are a dime a dozen, nothing special there, if you ask me.

Right!! and singers like Danny Gokey come around once in a million years!!! NOT!!!!!!! I would much rather listen to someone like Kris who puts his OWN spin on the songs he sings and I'll definitely be buying his first CD and his second and possibly (if he's not been corrupted by the industry by then) his third!!! The only use I'd have for a Gokey CD would be to level off a picnic table leg!!!

Watching Paula was painful. I enjoyed watching Cloris on dancing with the stars more than I did that. And why didn't someone do "Sweet Child Of Mine" with Slash there.

I am SO ticked that Allison went home! I've always liked her and thought she was (is) extremely talented. I'd definitely buy her album. I think we'll be hearing from her when the show is over.

Interesting week.

Allison didn't deserve to go, but we're down to the the last 4 so you never know whats going to happen.

I don't think Allison had that big of a following. The young girls are voting for the guys. Even though she's cute she not a hottie that the boys will be voting for. Her rocker style and looks (hair) may turn off some of the older voters.

I like her and hope she does soemthing great after Idol.

Why did we have to watch Paula. I could swear she was on last year singing or dancing or doing something. Please, no more Paula numbers!

Gokey deserved to go home. The dead wife bit is older than old and how long can he slide by on a sob story and a forlorn look up to heaven? Call me jaded. But this guy is on here due to the pity vote. Period.

I don't see the attraction to Kris. How do you compare his talent with Adam's? They're not even on the same playing field. The ONLY way Adam will lose this competition is if he wants to lose it. Frankly, we all know it's smarter not to win it and then not be married to the inevitable recording contract you get with Idol.

Adam is good enough to pick and choose any number of offers, the other also rans aren't. They need Idol, Adam doesn't. ONLY way Adam can lose, if Idol is legit... which I sincerely doubt, is to choose to lose to avoid the iron clad contract he had to sign to be on the show.

ahh..i liked Allison a lot-but in a
few ways she reminded me of Amanda
Overmeyer last year..just with more
control of her voice. While i would
MUCH MUCH rather have Allsion than
Kris(lil Arch)i kinda figured that
she was going home.As much as it
makes me look like an idiot..lol..
i really am wanting an Adam/Danny
finale.Danny needs to find himself
so to speak ,because he really does
have a unique and kinda sexy raspiness to his voice. It will more
than likely come down to A/D Top 2
and for some reason im thinking that Adam isnt going to win.Hes soo
awesome and sexy and that voice is
amazing..but i dont see him being
played on the radio. For that matter
I dont see it in Danny or Kris either.
With all the chaotic mess this seasons been...i sooooo wish that it was last year again and that i
could vote for DC over and over.He
is my fave idol ever..lol
