and to think it only took them 4 months to figure it out...

LOL! It was a Big Fat Zero! They had to know this would happen when they added the fourth judge.

I love the term "historic" - what a joke - it was as Simon said "unfortunate" - I didn't mind an occational guest judge in the past - but I really dislike the four panel judge idea this season. I am really amazed at their ratings though. Good for them.

The root cause isn't the fourth judge; it's the craptastic direction of the show.

Whoever is directing allows Seacrest to make the show about him and he allows the ridiculous banter between the judges to go on and on and on ad nauseum.

If they would take out all the filler (random sit-down interviews, pre-taped segments about that week's mentor, or--heaven forbid!--a couple of the advertisements, etc.) the show could get good feedback from all the judges and still come in under time.

I think four judges is too many and it gives Simon way too much power (since he breaks all ties). If I were going to scrap a judge, it wouldn't be Paula as most people would assume; I'd get rid of Randy.

Jennifer addressed this last week, but they really need Nigel back!

the article isn't about 4 judges being bad; it's about the 2 judge commentary each time that's bad.

It's not even about the two-judge commentary. It's about the addition of a fourth judge without any (apparent) thought to the rest of the filler that sends the show into overtime. Something had to give to bring the show in on time, and finally, after all these months, they realized it.
