the top 12: the beat(les) go on...

The final 12 strut their stuff to the tunes of the Beatles. (All 25 titles). Someone will make our ears bleed. Someone will move us to tears. (And not necessarily in a good way.)

However it goes, this is an open thread, ready and waiting for your jeers and cheers, tears and fears for the next several weeks.

Have at it...

I can't believe how many people have squandered the Pimp Spot this year. David A. was AWFUL.

If we could vote people off, I'd see him gone for forgetting half the song.

I agree with hi lord Dave and I've been a David A fan.. he was utterly dreadful tonight.. forgot the words... and worst of all.. he DOESN'T KNOW THE BEATLES!!!! That was almost insulting..
Best of the night were:
Females - Carly, Amanda and Brooke in that order
Males - Michael Johns (loved it) David Cook and Chikezie!!
Worst Male: David A hands down
Worst female: Kristy Lee (hated it)
Syesha and Ramielle were ok as was David H..

oops, forgot about Jason C.. that's telling.. but I did like him.. I always do. He certainly doesn't have a power house voice or anything close but he does have a quality that makes me want to watch and listen to him.. am I sounding like Paula???

I thought Chikezie was the best of the night. Vocally, not so much, but his performance was light yeas better than anything we've seen from him. Carly and David C. Were also strong.

Ramiele put me to sleep, Kristy Lee was downright awful and David A. needs to be put out of my misery (I'm not a fan of his and I think forgetting the lyrics--especially to a Beatles song--is almost unforgivable on this show.

Oh, David (A), why? WHY?
Guess this just goes to show...
don't pick a song by its title.
Ah, I might as well just stop watching Idol o-0

Oh, and judges, IT IS PAINFULLY OBVIOUS YOU WANT DAVID H OFF THE SHOW.

Loved Chikezie! He had my vote when he mentioned Danny but REALLY sealed the deal with his performance!

Kristy Lee is the someone who made my ears bleed. Get her out of there! Please.

I have never been a fan of David H. I can't wait for him to be gone, too.

I loved Chickezie. He had not been a favorite of mine until last week when he was consoling Danny Noriega. Chickezie has really grown on me.

I think David C. might just win the whole thing. But I really, really like Brooke and Ramiele.

They should leave the Beatle songs to the Beatles.

Thought Syesha and David A were the worse with Amanda real close, and She looked like hell tonight.

I'm a David A fan so I hope this was a fluke and he's still there next week.

I don't think I have a favorite tonight.

What the hell was up with David A? Showing his age, obviously. And Ramiele, she is frustrating me!! She has an awesome voice... just needs to believe it herself. I hope she sticks around. Kristy Lee, oy ve, please I would have rather had Danny Noriega in her spot. David C., Chikeze and Brooke were my favorites of the night, and Michael was right behind them. The rest were just good but not great.

Jennifer, Dave, PLEASE don't say "I told you so" because I know you did! You were both completely right, and I shouldn't have gotten so excited about Beatles night. You just can't compete with their songs. The problem is, I love them so much! On a better note, two of my top 5 Beatles songs were sung tonight, and done well. I was also expecting some less heard songs, not so many popularized ones. So here goes my banter, and I'll put them from worst to first this time....

David A.- I'm really sad for David, cos I thought this was the worst performance of the night, and he was in the pimp spot too. I have really liked him all the way along, I think he's a little more immature and naive than some of the other contestants who were only 16 or 17, but he has a huge following which will probably get him in the top 4, at least. Let's hope he shows himself up next week.

Amanda- I still don't like this girl, even though her pants were cool. I was really hoping for Helter Skelter, cos that's about the only thing she could have done well. Too bad it wasn't in the small time frame of songs they had to choose from. Not the worst though!

Kristy Lee- Oh, this poor girl! It really wasn't as bad as I thought at first, but it was pretty bad! The country thing just didn't work for this song, and I like country music! I actually thought the band was too fast, and there was no way that Kristy could have sung any faster to keep up. Still, not good, she's probably going home.

David H.- Don't get made at me for saying this, but...I think even mallrat Tiffany did a better job on this song. I don't think it was over the top, I just think thats David's persona. It was ok, but I'm not sure if I like David's need to hold his arm bent weird, and his hand looks like he's squeezing his nipple. I know that's mean considering this guy's background, but I've noticed more than once.

Ramiele- I can definitely see where the judges say that there's so much more to her, and she's not showing it. You can tell she has a big voice, and she's just too shy to show it. Great song, only sung so-so.

Syesha- I really like this girl, and she put a contemporary bit into this song. I just wasn't overly impressed.

Jason- This is one of the songs in my top 5! I thought it was good. Evan Rachel Wood does it better in Across the Universe (but we're talking about my fave tv show, not fave movie). You want to know what REALLY BUGGED ME? Those stupid idiots in the "mosh pit" clapping to the song. That's not a song that you clap to the beat on!! I was ready to scream. Good job to Jason, but I really really hate the idea of those people in front so close that you can hear them sometimes more than the contestant.

Carly- This was really cool, but I've heard it sung this way. Joe Cocker does Come Together exactly the same, so she wasn't really making it her own. Sorry girl, but good job nonetheless.

Brooke- Another beautiful song that could have been powered up with some serious belting, but Brooke did a nice job with it keeping it simple. I absolutely love the true meaning of that song, and why Paul wrote it. It's almost as if he knew what was happening to the band before it happened, and he wanted things to be alright no matter what happened. Ok, enough of my Beatles love (or obsession I should say)...Brooke did well.

Chikezie- I really really loved this performance. Like Dave said, the vocals weren't perfect, but he did a great job, and did a song that wasn't as well-known.

David C.- I absolutely loved this performance, and again thought he could make a hit out of it. I definitely can see what Jennifer's saying where he's almost an exact replica of Chris D. with his mannerisms, but thats okay. Hopefully he won't get cut short like Chris, I'd like to see him win this too.

Michael- I can't love this man any more! And no, he didn't have to play up the song at all, I thought it was absolutely perfect. Wow, for once I agreed with Paula. Another song in my top 5, and I was getting quite nervous, because I even love Fiona Apple AND Rufus Wainwright's versions. If you love this song, download both versions and the one which includes Sean Lennon and Moby. Anyways, huge fan and would like to see Michael in the finale with David Cook.

OH MY GOODNESS. I was cringing in my seat. I thought the clapping was throwing him off for sure. What a HORRIBLE idea to allow people to clap during a performance that is supposed to be subtle. I am so glad someone else felt the same way!!!!

Gav, I'm glad you agree. I really don't like this new stage setup. And it seems like the judges are miles away. Aren't they the most important ones to see the performances? They should be right in front. They have definitely evolved since Season 1, that's for sure!

Sunshine, I felt exactly the same way. In fact, I even yelled at the TV while watching, "Someone tell them to STOP CLAPPING!!" lol

All in all, tonight wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I guess when you set your expectations at "low to zero," then everything sounds great in comparison! Still, there were some really bad moments (*cou-DavidA-gh!*), and a couple of stellar ones to balance them out. So here are my picks, from worst to first:

David A - He forgot the lyrics. He doesn't know the Beatles. Even his cutie-pie status won't forgive such gaffs.

KristyLee - You know, she really has a great voice. She just doesn't know what to do with it! This was just horrible. I'm guessing we've just heard her swan song.

Syesha - She brought it home in the end, but the beginning was completely off-key. It was almost like she couldn't hear the music in her monitor. She looked uncomfortable up there...like the stage was about to swallow her up.

Ramiele - Gorgeous voice, but she put me to sleep. She has GOT to start believing in herself!

David H. - I love his voice, but this wasn't the right song for him at all. Plus, even though he tried really hard to work the stage, he just never seemed to be all that comfortable yo there.

Jason - I really like this guy. His vocal style reminds me of Don McLean. He's just got that folksy thing going for him, and I love it.
Even when he makes mistakes or misses a note, it's ok. I can't explain why...it just is. I think his imperfection is part of the charm. Maybe that's it.

Carly - Vocally perfect (as always) and a very good performance. The problem for me with her is that it seems it's just that: a performance. Her moves are all choreographed feeling. I have yet to see her truly connect with a song.

Amanda - If I didn't know this song, I wouldn't have understood even 30% of what she sang. But you know what? I don't care! She rocked the house! She took charge of the stage and just did her bluesy rock thang. I loved it!

David C. - The verses of the song were rough for me. But when he got about 1/2 way through the song and hit the chorus, OMG!! I love this guy! He reminds me quite a bit of Chris Daughtry. (Not the look; just the sound.)

Brooke - Now here's how you connect with a song. She sounded so good on this! The only thing that freaked me out a little was when she looked into the camera several times. She looked petrified. But she did a fab job. She's definintely growing on me!

Michael - WOWZA! I hardly ever agree with Paula, but I did tonight. I absolutely loved this song coming from my favorite Aussie in the competition. We finally got to hear him use some of his power voice, and now I remember why I liked him so much from auditions.

And my number 1 pick...

Chikeze!!! Holy HECK!!! Hands down, the HOTTEST performance of the night! He OWNED that stage!!! I nearly jumped up dancing when he was singing. I've rewatched him twice now...and I still want to listen again! Fantastic job. :)

Bottom 3: Kristy, Ramiele, Syesha

Who I want: Kristy
Who should: Kristy
Who will: Kristy

Last night was...interesting. I was surprised that David A. forgot his lyrics. On Idol, that's a cardinal no-no. I don't think he'll get the Melissa McGhee treatment; his following is too big for that. He just needs to step it up next week. I think he fell to victim to nerves on "the big stage", like a lot of contestants do. (Hey, I'd be shaking, too!)

My guess is that Kristy Lee Cook will go home this week. Her version of that song was cringe-worthy, to say the least.
