let's chat about the ladies...

Twelve women - two will fall into flames by the end of the evening. Or at least tomorrow.

Comment away. Who was great? Who needs to be put out of our misery? Does Carly the anointed show up (since she was a no-show last night)?

I'll be back tomorrow with my assessment. Until then, the comment thread is open for business!

Have at it.

Do you think "I have the flu" is going to be everyone's excuse tonight?

LOL Only the ones who get negative remarks. How are all the girls sick and none of the guys? Must be why Carly TCO was absent last night.

What were the girls doing that they all got sick and none of the boys did? (interpret that any way you want)

I don't care what Randy says, the guys were definitely better. I just wasn't impressed at all with girls tonight. A few of them did really well, but I'll lend my comments tomorrow after some reviewing and extra thoughts.

Also, Jennifer/Dave, I have to agree with you guys, about the girls being sick and not the guys. Not to mention that they are in L.A.! What causes the flu out there? I know here in RI, the weather has gone from 64 to 26 in about 5 hours. Now THAT temp flux causes sickness!

Honestly, the only girl that I thought did really well was Alaina. She surprised me with great vocals and performace. Plus I think she has a cute personality ("shoot."). I'd love to see her stick around. I think Randy was right in saying that the young people are really taking the stage this year.

Brooke is my second favorite. She didn't do great tonight but I just really liked her in the previous weeks. I hope she busts out the keyboard again and really shows us her talent.

Ramiele has a spectacular voice but I just didn't like her performance. She's definitely one of the best but the best needs to be better!

Kady has a great voice but she's not picking the right songs and she has a bad attitude. I still want her to stick around. She could be really, really great. I like her voice a lot... honestly more than any of the others' but she needs to work on her performance.

The worst was by far Amy Davis. Horrid. No reason that America would want her to stick around other than that she's pretty. Kristy did pretty awful too.

Other than that, I don't really remember or care about any of the others. I just hope to see the lucky remaining girls bring it much better next week.

Hey Jennifer,
I thought that Alexandrea and Brooke were so good! And how could I forget Syesha! I am just so excited about this season, there are a few really great standout singers.

Anyway...just wanted to let you know that AOL Television has their American Idol poll up again----voting for the top 6 guys and top 6 girls, comparing how other fans ranked them and whatnot. Here's the link:
http://television.aol.com/show/american-idol/65307/tv-show-poll

This poll is definitely not associated with AI (the disclaimer says so, haha), I think in past years it was pretty accurate in predicting who went home and who didn't. Just thought it'd be cool for you to check out, and keep checking back with for the rest of the season as the contestants get narrowed down.

It would be great if you posted it! Let me know!

Thanks----and Happy Idol Season! ;-)

From Worst to First:

Amy Davis - baaaaaad, in every possible way.
Joanne Borgella - didn't sound great, boring
Kristy Lee Cook - see Joanne

Alexandria Lushington - I'm with Simon on this one, I thought the vocal really was not that good, and she annoyed me when talking with the judges/Ryan after her song.

Kady Malloy - the singing was pretty decent, a few rough patches, but the real problem was song choice, and then taking the criticism from the judges after. The eye rolling will not help her cause.

Carly Smithson - some parts sounded really good, but some of it sounded pretty bad... inconsistent and I don't think her performing skills are what they should be with her experience.

Amanda Overmeyer - the song suited her, and she sounded good, some of the scatting was a bit much for me. Sweet guitar though.

Alaina Whitaker - much better than I expected, strong vocal, pleasantly surprising.

Syesha Mercado - Great overall, I liked the song choice, some of those glory notes at the end were a bit overwrought however.

Top 3 (I can't really rank them):
Ramiele - I was surprised and impressed at the restraint Ramiele used in her performance, and more importantly, she sounded great.

Asia'h - I thought I would hate it when I realized what the song was, but ended up thinking it was very good. Only compalint - she never said "heart" in the song. It was always "take another piece of my art." Apparently she chopped the H out of heart and tacked it onto the end of her name.

Brooke - my favorite at this point. I just think she has a tremendous voice, great pitch, great tone, and I love listening to her. I also think she didn't the props she deserved because Simon was too distracted with washing up liquid. Absolutely love her!

My way of judging is very simple. I close my eyes and imagine hearing that person on the radio while driving my car. And i ask myself this question: "Would i bother to buy this song by this person?"

Based on that, my favorites were: Alaina, Amanda, Kady, and Ramiele.

And, for the most part, i found myself agreeing with Simon more than with the other two.

Ok, first off, Carly Smithson. I am so OVER her its ridiculous. They are blatantly pimping her to the point that they may as well hang a billboard. Why are the so hot to take some other labels leftovers? Now that is out of the way, my top 6 girls were Ramiele, what control she has, I thought she was amazing, Brooke is adorable and I could listen to her for days, and then the next three were great performances and vocals, Asia'h, Syesha and Alexandrea. And then Amanda... not the best vocal of the night, actually the arrangement and the vocal seemed messy to me, but she gets the award for the most interesting, and the most potential for greatness in the coming weeks. She just needs to settle down a bit. Alaina was good but not my cup of tea. Eventually I think she will make the top 6 and knock Alexandrea out of the running. My biggest disappointment was Joanne. I loved her in Hollywood, but she kinda tanked last night. Too bad. The rest of the girls were pretty much interchangeable. Couldn't distinguish one from the other.

Although Carly Smithson has a decent voice - she is very uncomfortable to watch. Her facial experssions are not pleasant and the way she moves her mike are simply distracting. I know all about the "experienced pro" defense from Randy and Paula, I just don't agree with it.
