hello dolly!...
It's Dolly night for the remaining nine, and it's an open thread for all of us to critique the kids, the theme, the judges, Ryan, the commercials, or pretty much anything.
I'll be back tomorrow to offer mine, but until then, have at it...
I thought the show overall was very strong. It's partly a testament to the field this year but also to Dolly as a performer/songwriter. There were no bad song choices (although Syesha's was questionable).
This is off topic, but I just saw this and thought Jennifer would want to know since she was a huge Elliott fan:
Claudette Yamin, mother of singer Elliott, dies at 65 By the Associated Press April 1, 2008
RICHMOND, Va. - The mother of former "American Idol" contestant Elliott Yamin has died at the age of 65.
Yamin spokeswoman Monet Corso says Claudette Yamin died at Henrico Doctor's Hospital in Richmond on Monday night. The cause of death is not being released, but Corso says Yamin had complications over the last year stemming from hip replacement surgery.
Elliott Yamin came in third during the fifth season of the Fox television show. During that time his mother became a celebrity in her own right.
I thought everyone was pretty good tonight, but there were a couple stand-out performances for me. The rest are all just kinda clumped together. So here we go:
9) Ramiele - better than previous performances, but still not as good as she was during the top 24 shows. At times she sounded like she was running out of breath. But other than that, I thought it was a good song choice for her.
8) Syesha - Even though she decided to go with a simpler version of this song, and even though she had a few good moments through the song, the comparison to Whitney is inevitable. And unless you can sing as good as Whitney, just don't go there.
7) Kristy - It suited her voice very well, but it was just boring for me. And she should've stayed on the top note at the end, instead of doing a little run down.
6) Jason - I love it when he plays his guitar. He just looks so comfortable. :) I thought this song was ok on him, but it didn't wow me. Still, he should be safe for a few more weeks.
5) Carly - Her voice was pure and strong tonight, but I just couldn't reconcile the tempo she took with the original. And I'm really tired of Simon taking pot-shots at wardrobe issues. It's a SINGING competition! grrr... I thought she was good.
4) Brooke - I love this song and I thought she did a very good job on it. I like it better when she's playing guitar vs piano. She reminds me of a blonde Amy Grant. She even does the crooked mouth thing. Anyway, good job.
3) David C. - I love everything this guy does. It wasn't my favorite performance of his, but even his worst is better than the best of the aforementioned singers. I didn't know he could do such a high falsetto!
2) David A. - Wow...his voice is so pure! I love the tone and control he exhibits. And this was a perfect song choice for him. Two thumbs up! I was going to give him the top spot until......
this guy sang....
1) Michael - SMOKIN' HOT! He raised a few temperatures tonight, no doubt! And he totally blew "We Are the Champions" out of the water! His best performance to date. I hope he continues the trend of getting back to blues, like he exhibited back during Hollywood week. Loved this one on him!
Who I want: Ramiele, Kristy, Syesha Who should: Ramiele, Kristy, Syesha Who will: Syesha, Jason, Carly
I'm always wrong, so I probably shouldn't even predict. But just for fun, I think this could be Syesha's week to go home.
I think I found it a little different than many of you. For me, 4 people had performances I would classify as good, and I could be convinced to upgrade MJ's to very good.
For me, the rest were just there, as Simon might say, cruise ship quality. None were bad, but the 5 did nothing to suggest they deserve to stay on the show, as I would put it.
so, for me, I put Michael, David Cook, David A, and Carly as the performances that at least got my attention.
The rest, none showed anything tonight to suggest they felt they were fighting for their lives and careers. I think Simon was trying to say that all night, but never quite figured out a way to get that sentiment across. He wasn't mean tonight, I think he was seeing and hearing what I did, and that was most of the kids did NOTHING to make a case for deserving to stay, let alone win the show. (oh, and I liked Syesha, it's time people forget the Whitney version, and just focus on if "this" version was at least good. She sounded fine, and so what if she can't match Whitney for a couple notes, it was probably her best performance, at least that I can remember)
I can see any of the 5 being in the bottom, and considering others comments, I guess I should expect Carly there too.
I suspect Kristy, Jason, and probably Syesha to be in the bottom, as I think Ramiele is getting the Jasmine treatment and won't go away for a while yet. :(
My name is Jennifer, and I'm a fan. I'm no expert. I just know what I like. And what I don't.
The Shoutbox has been temporarily removed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Personally I think the top 4 guys tied for best tonight. They boys are so much stonger than the girls!
I thought the show overall was very strong. It's partly a testament to the field this year but also to Dolly as a performer/songwriter. There were no bad song choices (although Syesha's was questionable).
Syesha should know better but, in her mind, she is better than Whitney. Does that girls ego know no end?
Just checked dial idol and at the bottom is Ramiele, Kristy, Carly and Brook.
You'd think with it being Dolly night the girls would of been the best, but it was a guys night!
I agree with Kristi, Syesha must have a big ego.
