the first four killings: a SIMULBLOG!...

It's been a long drought between official executions, but the time has finally arrived! We're knocking off four tonight, two of the dudes and two of the dudettes.

Because THIS is American Idol.

And killing hopes and dreams is what we do.

And this is a simulblog, which means I'm watching in the East and blogging as I'm watching, complete with incoherent thoughts, misspelled names and, basic craziness, with publishing at every significant break, so if you want to be surprised, this is NOT the place to be. Until, maybe, tomorrow. Then come back and dish with the rest of us.

Because the show's getting ready to start!

Everyone is dressed in black and white as Ryan reminds us that this is the most talented group of contestants we've ever seen in the whole history of the universe. Sorry Ryan, but the last two nights have totally disproved that notion. But whatever.

Paula tries to justify the experience criticism that has been levied at the show of late by charging that if the kids haven't tried to break into the business by this time, they don't deserve to be in the show, or something of that nonsensical nature. And they're still pimping Daughtry as they present us a music video of the kids to yet another Daughtry soundtrack.

Note to Idol: Daughtry was 4th. Two seasons ago. He's a star now.

And it's a group sing! YAY! This explains the wardrobe coordination. And the hairstyles. I would try to explain this, but it defies explanation. It must be seen to be fully appreciated. Seriously.

Peace man. Totally groovy.

_____

And we're back and down to business. First up in the firing squad are the guys. Yippee.

We get shown a retrospective of the first night of competition. Geesh Idol, that night is ingrained in my mind. No need to refresh my memory. But whatever.

The guys get one more round of applause before Ryan calls Garrett to the stage, where he's drop kicked from the show amid idle chit-chat. Good call America. He gets to re-sing the song that done him in. The guys stand; the girls dab tears. It's so sad. So sad.

I love this show.

______

Now it's time to excise one of the ladies. And, once more, we're reminded of the flu-ridden, semi-decent episode that was last night.

Kristy Lee gets called to the stage, but is told she's safe. And as she's sitting, Amy gets the tragic news. She's yesterday's star. Good call America.

And, lucky for us, she gets to sing us to sleep, bravely trying to keep from falling apart. Poor kid.

Sometimes I hate this show.

______

Maybe you've heard. Paula has a new single and a video. Randy produced it. They pimp it. Enough said.

And they're back to the women, and Ryan calls up Joanne and Amanda. He warns them that the remaining girls are safe, leaving one of them the dead woman singing. And then he breaks. I hate when he does that.

waiting... waiting... I like the dog tail-wagging commercial... waiting...

And as we return from a half-hour of commercials, Ryan wastes no time in reminding the girls of their critiques before telling Amanda that she's safe, leaving Joanne on the stage to sing her funeral song, while the girls on the sofa cry and cry and cry.

_______

The guys are back on the sofa of death. Ryan calls for Chikeze and Colton. Both are reminded of their reviews from the night before. Ryan admits it's a tough night before telling Colton to hit the road.

He's trying to hold it together as his family looks on and Paula gives him the rah-rah speech.

I'm not having problems with three of the four, and Colton was bound to leave before the finals, but I think he deserved at least one more week. Alas.

So, agree? Disagree? Share your thoughts.

Jennifer, I swear you're in my head. I agree with you most of the time... and you crack me up. Just wanted to say thanks for blogging, I'm a 3 year subscriber now...

The order doesn't really matter. I thought Joanne had another week or two in her. Amy was a given to be eliminated. Garrett, too, because he had a face time problem. There are three or four guys who thought it would be them tonight and they know who they are.

There are some others that I would have rather seen get eliminated first, but I don't think any of them that were voted off would have won.

Definitely agree with Amy leaving. She did awful last night as well as tonight. Joanne and Garret were bound to leave sooner than later so it wasn't too shocking that they were sent home. But not Colton. Definitely not Colton. Chikeze should have gone... he was horrid. What happened there?!

I'm not surprised either Garrett or Colton got bounced.
Two "no face time guys", neither blew away the audience, hence buh-bye.

Yep. I had three of the four picked correctly. Now if America had just whacked Danny Noriega, I would be doing a "Happy Dance" in the street right now. Oh well, maybe next week.

Colton was axed mainly because of Kyle IMO.

I agree Kristi, Kyle was much better than Colton, and probably could have transformed into the next Clay. Chikezie should have been the one gone though instead of him.

I definitely called Garrett and Amy, they both were horrible...BOTH NIGHTS!

I was a little surprised by Joanne. Although I didn't think she did well, and I'm not upset that she's gone, but when her and Amanda were up there together, I was really hoping it was Amanda. Unlike Paula, I DO think she's a one trick pony, and as much as I love her style, and think all rockers male OR female are cool, I want to hear her sing something melodic! I don't think she can, honestly.

Also, Alexandrea or Asia'h could have left before Joanne as well. No one probably agrees with me, but Asia'h did a crappy version of the song, and Carrie Underwood's Faith Hill version was much better! I like her raspy voice, but I thought her performance was too "look at me, I think I'm hot sh...tuff!"
Alexandrea (whose name is too long to have to keep writing, not to mention it's half of my name and pronounced WRONG!) sounded like a bad rendition of TLC trying to sing a 60s song.

Hopefully next week, the real good ones will shine, and the others will be knocked off Randy and Paula's dance train. (which, btw, did anyone think her music video sounded like Britney could have done it?)

I don't know why Danny Noreiga reminds me of Sanjaya, there's something about him that just screams it. That's a pretty good reason to want to see him gone.

I'm not as impressed with Amanda Overmeyer as the gushing judges seem to be. I think she shouts and growls her songs, her appearance is distracting, and I think she will be a one trick pony. At least I hope so. I grew tired of her persona about 20 seconds after seeing her in the tryouts.

I'm happy with 3 of 4, but with the last one I was chanting "chikeze, chikeze, chikeze..."... I really thought Colton should have stuck around, he was better than at least 3 or 4 of the other guys that stayed, especially Danny, YUCK! I seriously hope he doesn't get any tweener votes.... although that must be how he didn't hit the bottom 3.

I agree with anonymous that he reminds me of Sanjaya.

Please, oh PLEASE don't let him stay around as long.

I want Kristy Lee to go. I haven't liked her since she said she sold her horse to get to auditions. If he's the best horse in the world, couldn't she have found a better way?

I just knew that hawt Luke was gone. I'm glad he's not! I thought Mr. Moon River or Chickeze would get the axe too. I was wrong.

I love Alaina, Brooke, Asiah and Ramiele. For the guys, I like all three Davids, Robbie and Michael.

I'm looking forward to next week!

I love Execution Night!

First let me say YAY! Great group sing! I thought it was one of the best group performances in the history of AI. And I LOVED all those go-go boots! woohooo!!

Okay, back to the killings...

I don't mean to be cruel, but I cracked-up at how Ryan wasted no time in leveling both barrels and blasting poor Garrett between the eyes. He's a good kid...just not a good singer. No surprise he went home.

After the women performed on Wednesday night, I knew it'd be Amy and Joanne. So obvious nothing more needs to be said.

Jennifer, I agree that Colton deserved one more week...if only because Chikiecheeze doesn't. All I can say is he BETTER bring it next week or I'm personally going down to L.A. to kick his butt off the stage!

In a side note, I actually really liked Paula's song! I loved her in the 80's and totally dug her dancing videos. She's slowed down quite a bit, but she sounds about the same. That song will be making its way to a dance club near you before you can say "Janet Jackson's choreographer."

Thanks for the laughs, Jennifer. ;)

Little surprised it was Colton over Jason Yeager, but then again, America is so dran vain I shouldn't be surprised. I can admit Micahels looks play a big part of my attraction ;)

Joanne aka the lost Bee Gee and Amy were of no surprise!

Danny reminds me of Sanjaya too. Not good!

Has anyone noticed how Simon, Paula and Randy have brought up the fact that some of the kids have DVD's etc, and that it shouldn't matter. I don't remember them ever bringing that up in the pass seasons. They must be getting some flack. Maybe their spies are reading what we're all saying.

I guess it doesn't matter, I just think its neater when the kids are just regular kids. You know, the guy at your local Burger King.

I too thought Joanne could have stuck around another couple weeks. They haven't even sung yet but I would like to say bye to Danny N (cause he creeps me out) and Chikezie..for the girls goodbye Kady and Kristy Lee. IMO..the girls are pretty darn good.

I called both Garrett and Amy as the first to leave... even though I somewhat wanted Amy to make it one more week just so I could hear her sing a different song. She BUTCHERED where the boys are, IMHO, but the audition tapes they showed beforehand hinted at a really good voice. Guess I'll never know.

I was surprised at both Joanne and Colton. I wondered if being last selected backfired on them, as it was weird to have them both out the first night. I think it sets them up unfairly as being "the person who got (Kyle/Carden)'s spot". But, honestly, no big loss even though I thought Colton performed better than about half his compatriots.

My rant for the evening is about their "advice" for the contestants:

1. No, Paula... having one week on American Idol does NOT mean that you have "millions of fans"... these people haven't had time to get a fan base, and tomorrow half the people who voted for them won't be able to remember their names.
2. No, Randy/Paula... while getting to the top 24 is an accomplishment, it does NOT mean that you have an open door into the music industry that now you just have to push.
3. No, Simon... getting eliminated the first night does NOT mean that you shouldn't try to pursue singing as a career. There are many singing jobs out there that may never make you rich and famous, but are fulfilling to those who have them.

Can't ANYONE on the show be realistic? There is no need to either squash their hopes or puff them up (just to be squashed later). Why not something like:

"Look, it is what it is. True, you got eliminated before anyone got the chance to know you, but you still really proved something by making it to the top 24, and you should be proud of that. As for the future, you've shown you have a good voice or we would have never have put you through this far. Where that voice takes you from here will depend on hard work, luck, and determination."

OK... end rant. :-)

Does anyone know how Amy made it through to the top 24 in the first place? I'm not actually watching the show (just following the blogs/youtube) and didn't see what she did in Hollywood. I thought her initial audition was really shaky, so I can't figure out she made it that far. I thought she was very out of her league.

The eliminations didn't surprise me TOO much. I'd pegged Amy and Garrett as goners, but I was a little surprised about Joanne and Colton. I thought they both deserved at least another week.

I agree with anonymous: Danny Noriega seems fated to be this year's Sanjaya. And, as many of you have stated already, that is NOT a good thing.

On a happier note, yay for the group sing! I've missed the group performances.

I hope all the girls get chopped the first few weeks of the final 12 - I would much rather listen to the guys.

I am sooooooooo happy AI is back and nearly as happy that Jennifer & her blog are back!!! Celebration X 2!

Just putting my 2 cents in on who I hope the Top 12 will be:

Alaina W.
Asia'h Epperson
Carly S.
Kady M.
Ramiele M.
Syesha M.

David A. (#1)
David C. (#2)
David H.
Jason C. (hair)
Michael (my hawt pick)
??? Robbie or Jason Y.?

Wow, I felt like the boys did better overall, but had a hard time picking 6.

I think David A. is a sweetie but he sounds like he's suffering from Awake Sleep Apnea with his crazy breathing during songs.

Jason C. is adorable in the take-home-and-keep-on-a-shelf variety, while Aussie Michael is the other kind of take-home, if you know what I mean.

I hope Kady doesn't fizzle out b/c I think she has a lot of talent that can be tapped into. I love Brooke's attitude etc. but don't think she has the pipes when all is said and done.

Looking forward to next week's shows & next week's blogs!!!
