next week news...(with updates!)

Well, we're getting a little trickle of information about next week's events. The Tuesday night episode, of course, is the final performance episode, where Taylor and Katharine will sing three songs.

Performance position depends on the famous coin flip, which Taylor won last night, electing to sing second, thereby finishing the show. The first song will be [taking deep breath and making big gulp] the original song. All we're hearing is "the original song" so that implies that there is just one, and both will sing it to their own beat, to their own arrangement.

And this will be certain: I will totally pan it.

I have no idea what else they will sing, but last year, as the year before, each of them selected one number from the season to reprise, so I have no reason to believe they won't do that again. Third song remains a mystery.

But what is not a mystery is that Daniel Powter will be there to sing, uhh, wanna guess? Yeah. He's gonna tell them they're having a Bad Day before they've even had one.

And then Wednesday, the two-hour cheesefest that is the finale, will run from 8-10 EDT, featuring Carrie Underwood and, of course, the reunion of the entire crew.

Now we kind of know that Meat Loaf (whom I adore) is planning to appear on the Wednesday finale, dueting with Katharine McPhee, so chances are likely that the kids will get to, like last year, pair with some great artists for a medley treat.

Now for me, my most fervent wish is for Roberta Flack to appear to sing one of her exquisite Donny Hathaway duets with Elliott. That is my wish. Last year the top three were given alone time on the stage with a guest. Word on the street says this time the top four will be given that opportunity and the rest of the kids will be grouped, usually by genre preference.

So that begs the question, if you could get anybody and pair them with one (or more) of the kids what would be your wish?

And yes, I still want Kanye West to rap with little Kevin.

UPDATE: Nigel's toying with us again, apparently. Discussing the finale extravaganza next Wednesday, he dropped us a morsel of a hint regarding Chris Daughtry, who he expected to be in the final two. Will Chris perform in the finale? Yes. He'll perform live. And, he says, "live" is the operative word. I think I know what that might mean, especially considering a certain band will be in Los Angeles on May 24.

ETA: Oh, and by the way, if you're interested in downloading any of the audio or video of this season's performances, the main site has those available now, but only until next Wednesday. The cost is $1.99 for videos and $.99 for audios. Just click the top Idol on Fox link in the sidebar.

hmmmmmmm meat loaf. I would love to see Taylor sing You Are So Beautiful WITH Joe Cocker. Seriously. This is the hard part no matter who wins now you feel sorry for the ones who don't although looks like Chris made out fine. Even though I felt Elliott didn't hold up his last night of performances I still heart him.....and Chris.

Oh I don't know, Nelle, if AI could handle Joe Cocker live and in person. He's kinda scary these days. :D

The new pics are great BUT, Kellie's new pic - did you have to choose the one with THAT hair? Ugh. I would have prefered the 'Queen' one - now THAT was hot! (hee hee - she's so cute.....)

Kevin & Elton John. I know Kayne West would be cool but Elton would be my choice.

A Katharine & Taylor duet would (will?) be awesome. I hate seeing any of these kids lose. Wednesday night is like passing a wreck on the freeway - you gotta look.

Jennifer, I've updated my chart to show how you're doing compared to other American Idol bloggers (and DialIdol).

Also added some info about why folks should avoid purchasing the $0.99 music from downloads.americanidol.com.

I'm having a real hard time trying to figure out what kind of a song Taylor and Kat could both sing. Someone must have some creativity to think that one up, they're so different. Looking forward to seeing who they sing with next week. Still want Elliott in the final two, so sad!!!

What about Katharine and Elliot doing the "too much too little too late" song by Johnny Mathis and some other female singer who's name escapes me!!
"Guess it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend We knew it had to end some day, this way"

We are in for a treat, aren't we? Chris will fit beautifully into Live's style.

I second the hope that Taylor will sing Georgia. I've been hoping for that one from Taylor or Elliot all season.

Really cute picture of Kat and Taylor, by the way. They look like they are clinging to each other for dear life!

If you just can't wait 'til Tuesday to pick up the CD, you can check out samples from the CD at Barnes & Noble's website, bn.com. They seem to be the only site that has them up for whatever reason.

I'll just repeat my desire from the other thread that for the results show they should have Taylor and Kat do a fast upbeat duet like the end of the Elvis medley where they were doing Burning Love. They should both just spazz out all over the stage and generally drive Simon nuts. :)

That Katharine dad rumor is just that. It has been completely ruled out.

Taylor Hicks Personal Information: Taylor Hicks was born October 6, 1976 at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. His family moved to Hoover, Alabama when he was young. Taylor Hicks's parents are Brad and Linda Hicks. He has a younger brother, Sean, who attends Georgia Tech. Taylor's dad is a dentist. Taylor Hicks has never been married.

Taylor Hicks Gray Hair: Taylor Hicks wasn't always gray--but it seems that way. He started turning gray at about 15 years old, according to his grandmother Jonie Hicks.

Taylor Hicks Education: Taylor Hicks went to high school in Hoover, Alabama. He won a school talent contest but was not involved in any music program in school. He played varsity basketball, however.

Taylor went to Auburn University for a short time. He majored in business, communications and marketing. While at Auburn he met some musicians and formed the Passing Through Band.

Taylor Hicks Musical Background: According to his grandmother, Taylor has never had any music lessons. He came running up to her when he was about twelve years old saying, "Grandma, you've got to hear this!" Then he sang Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness" for her.

Taylor's music reflect his favorite music: the old songs of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Ray Charles. In fact, Taylor used to always carry a tiny statute of Ray Charles on stage with him. It was lost or stolen recently and he's been looking for another one.

Taylor Hicks Music Career:
Taylor left college before graduating and went to Nashville for nine months to pursue a musical career. He has played for various venues around the United States. He has even played a couple nights at the Playboy Mansion.

Taylor Hicks plays guitar and a "blues" harmonica or "harp." He writes most of his own songs. Taylor Hicks has a CD entitled: Under the Radar.

Taylor Hicks Likes & Dislikes: Taylor Hicks likes healthy food and was skinny as a child. His grandmother says that he won't eat junk food or fried food. She's tried to get him to eat a candy bar or chips until she can get something cooked for him, but he won't eat it. He prefers roasted meat, vegetables and potatoes.

Taylor Hicks' Personality: His grandmother, Jonie Hicks, says that Taylor is not pretentious. He feels "at home on the stage and opens up his heart and lets people in." He would never be rude to people or do anything to "stand out." In other words, he's a Southern gentleman
