and we hear from them...

Katharine and Taylor are dishing the good stuff to USA Today. Unfortunately they're not giving us any hints to what they'll be singing, except that two of the three songs will be songs already sung this season.

Okay then.

I would say to Katharine: stay away from Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Let that performance, which is still fresh in the mind, stay frozen in time. You don't want to destroy the moment. I suggest dipping back into the vault with Black Horse and a Cherry Tree and one of the ballads, perferably Someone to Watch over Me. Yeah.

And Taylor, I don't recall any final two contestant going back as far as the semi-final performances, but I would love to hear Levon again. And Something. Yeah.

So, with two songs from which to choose, which Katharine/Taylor performances would you like to see them repeat? After all, something has to wash our ears out after being assaulted by the original song.

And just in case you missed it, Elliott's exit interview is here. If you thought he was a class act before, this will leave no doubt.

Did you see Elliott on Jay Leno? I felt bad for him, it was such a stupid skit!

Thanks for sharing the link to the interview. I'd not read it in it's entirety, and now that I have, I love Elliot even more if it's possible.

I'm so happy to know that someone as talented as he is is able to be so down to earth.
Maybe he'll rub off on Kayne West.

Elliott is *truly* an American Idol.

As far as songs to repeat...

I'd like Katharine to go back to the semi-finals and rehash Since I Fell For You. I'd have to agree with you on Black Horse and a Cherry Tree.

Taylor could pick pretty much anything and I'd be happy. I would LOVE to see him sing Trouble again. Maybe Levon...maybe You Send Me...maybe In the Ghetto. And even though it was only last week, I would so love to see him sing TALT again.

Am I the only one on this planet that did NOT like Kat's version of Black Horse and the Cherry Tree? To me she embodied none of the deep bluesy soulfulness that KT wrote into that song, and also trailed alot at the end of the verses.

My favorite performance from her was probably Come Rain or Come Shine.

Don't care what Taylor does, I think he'll be fine.

yeah, I saw elliott on Leno
They do that tacky "Wheel of Consolation" with every eliminated contestant. Makes me cringe every time.
One thing I did like - when he "won" that kiss from the army (?) lady, he turned his face so she would only kiss him on the cheek. I bet he was thinking of his girlfriend.

I agree that Katharine shouldn't do Somewhere Over the Rainbow again this coming week, it would be lose some impact doing it again this soon. I think they both should avoid any performances they did this last week (including the ones from the result show, which I think they both did great on).

I also agree that Black Horse and the Cherry Tree would be good for Katharine for an upbeat number. Someone to Watch Over Me would be good as a slower number but I think, if it is allowed under the theme, I would prefer her to do God Bless the Child that she did back in her audition. Possibly pulling a Bo and doing it acappella. If she does it last it would even have a nice bit of symmetry, starting and beginning the competition on the same song.

For Taylor i am not as sure, lots of great stuff he has done he could do. Your picks are good. I'll have to think on it a bit more.

Er, that would be starting and ending the competition on the last song. :)

Anyone who watched S3 will remember DeGarmo deciding to redo the song she performed brilliantly in the final three show then destroying that memory by hitting the worst finals clunker ever. Now she's remembered for having choked on that song rather than having killed on it the week before.

It's hard to pick not knowing what kind of song the "original" beast is going to be. Often the "original" song is written with one person in mind, the person they expect to be there in the end. And this year, we all know that was Chris, so it could be interesting.

But the idea of Tamyra Gray and Nick Lachey writing a song for Chris is amusing in itself. :D

I can barely type, from the tears I'm trying to look through- after reading Elliot's exit interview. I always knew I loved him- now I KNOW why; he's an incredibly beautiful soul. I'm already missing him and I'm not the only one looking forward to his next 'growth spurt', so to speak!

Yes Cherry Tree for Kat. I'd love to hear Taylor singing Easy again! Love him, love that song.

Has anyone listened to the Rainbow audio? I really liked the song live, but my boyfriend had Howard Stern on and they were playing clips from the show. They played the part of Rainbow towards the end where Kat starts going high and loud... and my boyfriend gets a look of horror on his face and says "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!?" I have to admit it sounded a lot worse on the radio, very shrilly. I haven't heard any pure audios of here other songs but man, was that torture to my ears :(
