early spoilers: don't say you weren't warned...

No word yet from anyone which "birthyear" songs the final five will be selecting, but a couple of pretty credible spoilers are emerging about the current tunes both Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee will perform.

According to GrayCharles.com, Taylor's early choice of a current chart title is Bon Jovi's Who Says You Can't Go Home? There's also a link to the mp3 of the song there, in case you have never heard it. I like the song choice, but then, I like Bon Jovi. Now, of course, we don't know what song Taylor will actually end up performing, because, as we all know, his first selections have not always been his last one. Ahem.

And on the Katharine side, looks like she'll be singing Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, at least according to artist KT Tunstall's MySpace site, where you can, again, listen to the song if you're not familiar with it.

I bet the current Top 10 song was a very hard choice for Taylor. I like the Bon Jovi song and am curious to see how he might pull it off...it might be a very good choice for him if he can do it with his own flair! -Jenna

yay! Two songs that are definitely worth hearing next week. I love bon jovi's "cant go home". I REALLY love the version with jennifer nettles from sugarland! and AWESOME VIDEO!!! Heather Locklear is in it, they filmed in Philly right before her and richie broke up.

I think Black Horse and the Cherry Tree could be really good for Katharine. A lot depends on how well they are able to make a 90 second version of it that uses the more vocally interesting parts (otherwise she could be in for some of the "not challenging enough" style judges comments). Its a fairly bluesy song and the bluesy edge to a lot of the stuff Katharine did, particularly earlier on, is what made me like her so much in the first place. Of course, I am certainly not necessarily representative of the voting populace at large so no real idea how they will take it.
