but will they do the fandango?...

And so the countdown begins until the trainwreck of royally-massive proportions or the remaining eight awake from their vacation in mediocrity-land and salvage what's left of this season.

After the past two weeks, I must admit, I'm polishing up my helmet and tightening my seatbelt.

So what do we know? We know the kids will be belting the classics of Queen. This much we know. We know that one of them will attempt to perform Bohemian Rhapsody. But we don't know which one. Four names continually surface as possible/probable BoRhap killers: Kellie, Ace, Katharine and Chris. Watch. It will be Paris.

The only spoiler with any semblance of credibility comes, once again, from the Elliott camp (we love those family squealers!!) who hint and clue that he will perform Somebody to Love.

Rocky says Bucky will head bang his way through his selection. [Now, let's all take a moment and hope that by the time this show is over, we're not the ones banging our heads.]

And, of course, we know that the Wednesday results show has been moved up to an 8:30 p.m. start and will last an hour. (Gotta totally screw with ratings for The Amazing Race, now...) And there will be a group sing. Repeating: there will be a group sing.

'Bout damn time.

I am drawing a complete blank with song choices for these guys, and considering what a poor job they've done choosing songs for themselves, I've decided not to even try.

Regardless, it's definitely going to be, uhhh, interesting.

Get your popcorn ready.

I made a list of what I think everyone will sing. I used clips of Queen songs and tried to fit them into the appropriate AI contestant. I also used what Jennifer said about Elliott and Bucky and put that into my thoughts. So, here it goes:

Katharine - Killer Queen

Ace - We Are the Champions

Kellie - Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Dwight Yoakam did a version of it, and Kellie only knows country so I figured that would be appropriate)

Elliott - Somebody to Love

Chris - Fat Bottom Girls (the lyrics are just so rockin')

Taylor - You're My Best Friend

Paris - I Want to Break Free (even though I hope she doesn't but it's the best suited for her voice, or Crazy Little Thing because Fantasia did it and Paris reminds me of her sometimes--blech!)

Bucky - We Will Rock You

I hope to God no one does Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't think any of these guys can outdo Constantine's version.

Okay, I was under the impression that the only songs to choose from were on the new album ready to hit the shelves....am I confused, as usual???

They appear not to be confined to the special album. Mandisa said her chosen song was Who Wants to Live Forever, which is not on that CD, so that's what we're going on.

It's not enough that they will individually shred a classic, they're going to come together as a group and trash a Queen classic.
This could be worse than Elton John night. All that night did was prove how great Elton was and how incapable the contestants were.
None of them had the range to make any Elton John song acceptable. Unfortunately, I expect similar results tomorrow night. We may be wishing we could vote 4 or 5 off the seal Wednesday. I may start with the volume very low and turn it down as the night progrresses. I hope I'm wrong, but, "I don't think so Tim".

Ace should sing Bohemian Rhapsody - it would be perfect for him.
I freakin LOVE Queen so I am really excited about the show and the new cd.

I have to admit, I'm sort of excited to see what a disaster it will be. AT least nobody has any high expectations, so maybe we'll even be pleasantly surprised. (yeah, right!)
I think it will be so bad it might actually be good. Or am I just trying to convince myself???
Anyone else looking forward to it?

USA Today article has what they are supposedly going to do.

Here is what USAToday says is being sung. Note Pickles has the recipe for disaster. AI requires short versions of the songs. Pickles short version of BoRap could get messy!!!

PREVIEW: Idols rock in Queen's Arena

•Ace Young, We Will Rock You: "I urbanized the verses a little, just by riding on (the notes). I put a little R&B soul on it. When we were done, they said, 'That sounds like a record.' "

•Bucky Covington, Fat Bottomed Girls: "Yes, we all love the fat-bottomed girls."

•Chris Daughtry, Innuendo: "It's a relatively unknown song. It just had a mixture of a dark feel and a positive message. And I just found out they've never performed this live."

•Elliott Yamin, Somebody to Love: "I was drawn to the passionate emotion of the song. I heard a lot of soul in it."

•Katharine McPhee, Who Wants to Live Forever: "How could (this) not be fun? We're working with so many different legends."

•Kellie Pickler, Bohemian Rhapsody: "We only have 1 minute and 30 seconds, and the song is really long. Having to cut so many pieces is really hard to memorize, because I'm not singing the song as it's originally played."

•Paris Bennett, The Show Must Go On: "Being with the band was a big experience to me, never being with a rock band before. I was able to pick a song that fits me, that's still rocky."

•Taylor Hicks, Crazy Little Thing Called Love: "You listen to a Queen song, it's really melodic and very powerful, and the dynamics (are) really cool."

Why do they only have 90 seconds (I think a little longer) to do a song? Because they need time to do 47 minutes of commercials and mindless dribble at center stage.

Oh, and it's pretty sad when we look forward to Idol just to watch and listen how BADLY they are going to perform instead of looking forward to hearing the contestants actually do a song justice. This year totally STINKS!!! I am disgusted can you tell??? It had such promise in the beginning, but now? As Simon would say "absolutely dreadful".

Yeah, but Lisa, it's a good excuse for a drinking game:

drink every time one of them misses a note.

drink every time one of them chooses a crappy song

drink every time Pickler winks or Ace points to a body part

fall down before first commercial!

So, see? The season's not totally wasted. Just the viewers. ;o)

Take a look at Katherine's face in the pic of them w/Queen. Doesn't she look a little scared? (and rightly so). And check out her lovely clothing choice! That girl needs some fashion sense.
