with 10 you get boring: a simulblog...

Time to kill off another kid who just weeks ago had visions of superstardom dancing in the head. Of course, after last night, we ought to off more than one, like, uhhh, eight, but hey, if one is all we can have, we'll take it.

It's a typical Wednesday night execution live blog, with publishing at every significant turn, so if you live in the west and want to be "shocked" as they promise us we will be, you might want to play Slingo for awhile.

Because THIS is American Idol!

Life is busy, we're told, for an American Idol, as we get a glimpse of all the work they force the kids to perform. But they get perks too, like seeing that cute little movie with that cute little Sid in it. Not as cute, of course, as Ace's brother, but he's cute in an animated sort of way.

We're reminded that Shakira is in the house and will be performing. Again (still?) I'm ticked about having to listen to someone I care nothing about when I could be laughing my butt off at a crappy group song. Don't these people know what we want? We want bad dancing, dang it.

But at least we still have crappy Ford commercials. And this week's isn't as much crappy as it is boring. Kinda fits into the theme of the whole week, I suppose.

Shakira is here. Good. I needed a bathroom break...

I'm sorry Shakira fans, but that had absolutely no business this week. At least Stevie Wonder and Barry Manilow did something besides sing. This was gratuitious hawking of a CD. This season really is starting to irk me.

We get a reminder of the injuries inflicted last night, like we needed it, and it's time to start lining up the condemned.

Mandisa, Chris, Pickler, Paris and Taylor are told they're safe. Applause ensues. Ryan says to look at the top row and asks "what have you done America." Geesh. I know what I done last night. And both of them are in the bad row.

Elliott gets his reviews and plugs his ears. And he's safe. YAY!! Lisa is reminded how much the judges hated her performance and, as usual, is sent to the middle of the stage because she's such a bad girl.

Ace is sent to join Lisa on the seal. Bucky and Katharine laugh that they're left. Each gets a reminder of their reviews, and Katharine is banished to the seal. Booing ensues. Screams ensue. Havoc reigns. Okay, I'm trying for drama...

This will, however, be the last time I believe Nigel and his "shockers." Katharine on the stage? Surprising, yes. But with Ace, who's been there and Lisa, who's qualified for squatters rights? Shocker more than the three divas? Hardly.

Katharine appears to be crying, and Ace is sent back to safety.

Simon backtracks on his glowing reviews last night for Kat. Paula admonishes the voters to hit redial until their fingers bleed.

Lisa is smiling, since she's grown so comfortable in the hot spot. Katharine says Jesus take the seal.

Ryan says goodbye [finally] to Lisa.

You had a bad day...

I never expected Katharine to be in the bottom 3. What does everyone think of that?

That was too close for comfort, but my guess is that Ace was the second lowest vote total.

Next week is country. We need three new judges, because these three have NO CLUE when it comes to country music!!!
Bucky could do "Put Some Drive In Your Country" by Travis Tritt.
Katharine could do "Breathe" by Faith Hill. Pickles needs to stay away from anything related to suds and buckets.

So you think they just made up the order of the last two for effect? That's nasty! I am not a rooting fan of Katharine's nor have I ever or would ever vote for her, but that girl can sing and she isn't too hard on the eyes either. Perhaps these things are doing her in. It's unfair to some that this contest turns into more of popularity contest than a singing contest. But I guess American Idol is POP and that is what America is looking for. I think people like Taylor and/or Chris bring a new dimension to American Idol as did Bo Bice. IMO, they bring a dimension that the popular American culture is lacking. Anywho that is my 3 cents..LOL!

Absolutely, since Kat was in the bottom three, keep her there until the end for effect. She is way past easy on the eyes...she is drop dead gorgeous.

Jennifer, Do I need to console you since Ace is still around?

I'm thrilled that the trend did not apply to my guy tonight.

Having said that, I'll admit that Ace was crappy this week. If he doesn't get his act together, I'm going personally leave him a very unkind message on his MySpace account.

Where was the surprise?! This was nowhere NEAR the 3 Divas shocker! I want my money back.

(But happy to see Lisa go.)

Again, I think the judges need to recuse themselves from Country Week. Not because of conflict of interest, rather lack of interest.
Simon has admitted to not understanding this genre. Randy and Paula are not qualified to comment. Go get Alan Jackson, Reba McIntire, and Travis Tritt. Alan represents classic country, Reba represents the female vocalists while Travis understands Southern Rock and Country Rock.
This is the week Kellie needs to put her suds back in her bucket and do something great! She is on the verge of finding the seal on Wednesday. Bucky should do Travis Tritt, Waylon Jennings, Alabama, or Ahlman Brothers. Elliot could reach back and do Ray Price, Marty Robins, or Ricky Van Shelton. Katharine was made for Faith Hill.
Mandisa was made for Martina McBride (Independence Day). Ace, this could be your swan song. He might try Keith Urban. Again, he could reach back to Willie Nelson and do Georgia on My Mind (Yes, Willie wrote it and recorded it), or Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain. Chris might take on Garth Brooks "Thunder Rolls". Garth also did a rock album under an assumed name, something from there might be appropriate. Paris, hmmm...she could pull off Patsy Cline, but the music will probably be to "old" for her. She could also do Reba McIntire or Shelby Lynn. Staying closer to her age, Lee Ann Rimes comes to mind. At any rate, the week has the potential to be outstanding...or even worse than last week's fiasco. Later all.

In retrospect, an announcement like this was needed to get anybody to watch. After Tues. sucky performances, I didn't even feel like tuning in tonight. After all, Lost is on, too. Whoever went wouldn't have been too sorely missed by me...Lisa, Ace,...etc.
This was no doubt a publicity stunt to get people to watch.
And don't you think after this one Kat will get tons of votes next week to ensure her position at the top?

Oh absolutely, this will help Kat. People talk about the bottom being the worst ever!! It's only the worst if you're in the bottom one, IMO. Kat and Ace fans know they can't sit on their hands.

And while I think Ace is still in trouble, because he is now among the worst with country night approaching, Kat may have needed that little wake-up call that perhaps she's not the shoo-in that I think she thinks she is.

I think you're right to say that Ace is in trouble with the country theme.

There's not a lot of falsetto coming out of Nashville and he could be facing elimination. Fox has apparently revoked is TCO status and that's left him exposed as a poor vocalist.

The big beneficiary is Bucky who will get basically two weeks of country night themes.

Kellie needs to stop trying to be Carrie and just sing (not talk).

Well Dave, maybe Ace could do Faith Hill....

Holy Yodel, I'd PAY to see that.

I forgot about that high register. Ace is best suited to a Vince Gill song.

See this whole Country theme is pointless...isn't that all Kellie and Bucky have been doing since day one?

You don't hear Simon getting on their cases for sticking to what they know.

Kat I bet is really good with country seeing as she's roomies with Kellie and I've even heard her talking like her...accents are contagious!

I think the VCM fans have been put on notice. Her main problems now are not being flat (and it's bad when I can tell that your pitch is off) and overcoming Fox/19TV's Chosen Ones (those were the people seated on the front row last night: Taylor, Kellie, Paris, Chris and Mandisa).

Whew. I thought she was flat too, but since I didn't know the song, I wasn't sure if she was supposed to be.

Yes, Katharine was flat and Kellie was behind on her cues.

I thought that Katharine sounded awful, and was actually happy to see her in bottom 2-- she seems very smug, like the pretty girl who is not used to losing at anything.

Lisa was so Watching Paint Dry that I am not going to miss her at all. Junior Star Search ended for a reason.

This whole season is boring me to tears! Maybe I'll take up another hobby. I'm rooting for Elliott just because he's so cute and geeky.

If I could slip a note to Ace, I'd tell him to sing When the stars go blue. Which was just covered by Tim McGraw. Has a great falsetto in it. It was originally done by ryan adams. Is he country? LOL. I don't know much about country/western music, but with the great similarity to POP country has these days, I don't think it will be as difficult for the other's to find something to sing. I'd love to hear Kat sing anything from Allison Kraus. I just hope the song choices are better than last week.

I think that Ace probably had the second lowest votes too...they never said that Katharine had the second lowest...I believe she was in the bottom 3...but not bottom 2..kept her there for drama...it worked.
Hopefully this Tuesday will be more interesting than last week.

I know that this is a little late for a comment (there was a death in the family and I only got to read the most recent blog today), but I have to agree completely with Gavintie. People are seeing this more as a popularity contest than a singing contest. Katharine is one of the best singers in the competition whether anyone thinks shes smug or not. You can't tell a person's personality just by looking at them for an hour and a half on tv each week (unless its on that stupid show they call "survivor"). I noticed that Elliott forgot his words a little, but that didn't put him in the bottom 3. He's still an incredible singer. The shocker should have been Chris in the bottom 3. I'm starting to get bored with the whole "change EVERY song to a rock song" thing (I still like him though and want to rub his bald head). Anyways, I'm a Kat fan and I think she belongs in the TOP 2, not the bottom 2. I'm sorry if I'm sounding all belligerent and hostile, cos I don't want to get anyone mad or upset. I just needed to vent about last week.

On a happier note, YAY for country week! These are my choices for songs in no particular order:

Katharine - Stand by Your Man
Taylor - Mamas Dont Let your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys
Chris - something by Montgomery Gentry or Big & Rich ("Gone" is good)
Elliott - Always on my Mind (even though Fantasia ruined the song in s.3)
Bucky - I would love to hear him sing something by Dwight Yoakam (and he can even do dwight's goofy shuffle)
Kellie - too many for Kellie to choose from, maybe a Reba song
Mandisa - I Will Always Love You (she would probably do the Whitney version though, not Dolly's)
Paris - I Fall to Pieces
Ace - Desperado

Let me know what you guys think, I could be off, but I tried.

I was so sad that Katharine was in the bottom 3 and I don't believe she was actually #2 lowest either. I think she has a beautiful, clear voice, particularly when she is not belting. I want to see her do an Allison Kraus song, too - good call! I don't think she's smug at all. I think for a girl that talented and beautiful, she's actually a little self-conscious.

What do you guys think about Mandisa? Is she a gay-hater?? I heard what she said in the opening of her gospel song last week, and had not even thought of that.

Sorry to say, I miss Melissa and would've loved to see her this week for Country!
