this is filler...
While we wait for Elliott Yamin, urrr, I mean the top three results show, here's a list of seven (only 7?) Idol annoyances, compiled by the funny folks over at AOL.
Among them are the mic stand carry, the "after the break" silliness and (my personal biggest peeve) the fingers up for dialing purposes in case viewers can't read numbers business. I'm sure we can come up with more than seven.
I'll start:
Product pandering. Yes, I know that Coke is a major sponsor, but can't they just buy commercial time like everyone else? Must we sit the kids down on stools in front of a billboard? Must there be a nauseatingly red Red Room (that we don't get to see anymore)? Subtlety is a lost art. Bring back subliminal messages!!
So, what annoys you, other than bloggers asking about what annoys you?
Labels: american idol, annoyances

I'm just waiting for Elliott tonight too. I wish is was doing "Movin' On" instead. Oh well!
This year is so weird. Last year I would have said too much info on some contestants (Kelly Pickler) and not enough on others (Melissa McGee). This year it not enough information on ANYONE.
The fan questions are VERY stupid.
This year the band has been way too loud.
But topping my list is not knowing the vote totals. I'm not sure we could trust them if they told us but it would at least APPEAR that they are going by the actual votes.
Who's next?
Oh! I forgot a BIG one!
Yo, Yo, Yo, check it out! I'm not feeling Randy this year. Know what I mean dawg.
My biggest gripe is that they don't let the kids sing.
On most nights, all they get is 90 seconds, which is basically one verse and one chorus.
This is a singing show!!!! We need more singing.
More group choreography! More group songs! They are cheesetastic and horribly fabulous - the embodiment of everything I love about this show.
I guess what bothers me the most is that with an hour results show, you think you could squeeze in a 90 second song performed by the contestants themselves and not a B-List, up-and-coming rock/rap starlet.
I can not stand the filler and one-hour results shows! It is just such a waste of time.
Those AOL Gripes were so true -
Number fingers really piss me off!

Two of my other gripes:
Hour long results shows. Really, why do they subject us to this crap. All results shows should only be about 6 minutes long.
Cheap stunts. Things like the BS they pulled on Judd and George a couple of years ago have got to go.
Jenn, as to product "placement" ala TV from the 50's, it's people like me to cause that :) I don't watch commercials. I don't watch live TV, not even sports. I DVR everything and watch it compressed without commercials (normally Idol I'll watch either 20 or 30 minutes after it starts, or within the hour it ended). Only takes 40 minutes if I listen to the whole thing, and like last night, I can skip any crap I don't wanna listen to and maybe watched 30 minutes of the show.
So blame Tivo and the DVR for "in the show" product placement, and expect a lot more in every show you watch, because advertising doesn't reach a person like me anymore (yeah for me, until they put the ads in the shows :( )
as far as peeves, I'd say the voting count is my biggest. I'd really like to know the numbers, or at least the percentages. I think "knowing" how close or far apart certain people are would affect how we vote as we try harder to keep the better people on the show :)
At a minimum, they should announce the bottom 2/3 vote totals, just would make the show seem more 'valid'
